Hi All,

I am considering buying a Hitachi 1 TB Internal HDD ....

Would be great if TE members with Hitachi HDD especially 1TB and above can share their experiences

don't think that there would be many with hitachi HDDs. especially big ones like 1Tb. I have a Hitachi 80Gb SATA bought in Mar2006, still ok. & its pretty silent as well!

OT: which manufacturer provides the longest warranty on HDDs?

Look at my signature.

I have a 1 TB Hitachi 7K1000.B(16MB cache)

Currently I purchased a 1TB Hitachi 7K1000.C(32MB cache) for my Uncle's system costing Rs.3100/-

I have found them to be very reliable.

I have been using the drive for more than 9 months and it runs cool and gives stable transfer speeds.

Check this review's conclusion for Hitachi's Quality

Conclusion : 1TB Evolves: New Drives, More Speed

Which city are you from?

Need a good 1 TB Hitachi so will give this a try ... anyway costs only 3.1k ....... but worth the effort !

I had a 160gb 2.5 inch IDE hitachi drive, which I used as an external, portable drive, it died after two years and then the rma was a major head ache and it took 2 months. I had to send it to Prime Abgb in Mumbai from whom I bought the drive in the first place. Avoid Hitachi and go for Seagate or Western Digital.

Sunny27 - Are there no Hitachi Service centers? I am considering a Hitachi 1tb drive but it would be really painfull if for RMA i have to go through the Dealer itself.

I've rma'd hitachi harddrives, they have drop off locations almost everywhere. You just have to give the harddrive at the drop off location along with a printed copy of the rma document, then after about a week or so you will get a new drive sent to your home address.

You dont have to pack the drive or anything, they do it themselves at the drop off location.

Hitachi is very good, silent n reliable. Used two drives between 2005 and 2009 and they were silent n smooth than WD & ST n never gave any issues. But now the market has been taken over by WD & ST so no samsungs n hitachis easily found.

This is a good service.

It was nice of you to solve that confusion/query of other members of TE.

Regards,

Thanks for providing this information Tejo. Did you by any chance do one recently? Just wanted a feedback on its ongoing RMA service.

Well i had hitachi bought about 3 years back. Had to get it rma after 2 years of use. Now after another year even the rma 'ed disk is dead. Got a new WD disk this time. Too early to comment on it.

^ Thanks a lot yaar. you feedback is quite valuable since most of the Ppl say hitachi support is pathetic.
Support is sure worse than pathetic. It took about 2 months to get a replacement disk.
