You would need an AV Receiver/Amplifier only if you're using non-powered speakers i.e. speakers without their own amplification.

The Logitech z5500's for example have their own inbuilt amplifier and do not need to be hooked up to an external amp. Whats your budget on these BTW? You've only mentioned a 5-7k budget (which i assume is for the screen alone!)

5-7k $$ i meant bro :P

so, again left with 2 things.....1) which speakers ? with/without amp.

2) screen !!

and wts Creative Home Theater Connect DTS-61 used for ?

//thanks

About the screen.. I've heard Da-Lite is good.. but might be a little costly.. a cheaper alternative is Goo paint from Goo Systems since you're look at a fixed frame.. painting the wall with Goo would work out cheaper and cleaner. Do go thru the reviews of Goo at Goo Systems before making a choice..

alright ^^...but what size ? for 90% 720p content...i guess the black bars wont be visible on d screen :)

so, again 1) which speakers ? with/without amp.

2) Wts Creative Home Theater Connect DTS-61 used for ?

//thanks

Will you start at the begining? What all have you already bought? What is your budget for the rest? What is the size of your room? Will you be buying from India or abroad?

^ Oh wow, wish we had budgets like you :D

To start with I think you should go for 4 floorstanders, a good sub, and 3 satellites, cause most receivers can upsample 5.1 soundtracks to 7.1 anyways.

What's the size of your room and seating arrangement like?

Go for a Blu-Ray drive or alternatively get a PS3.

For your speaker setup, I would recommend you pick something from here :

View the 800 Series speakers at Bowers & Wilkins - The World’s leading speaker brand.

For the Subwoofer, try Quad / REL Acoustics, they make some frickin VFM products!

Can't say much about the surround amp, cause I really haven't auditioned anything in that range, but I'm sure you'll be able to find something.

For starters look at the Denon AVR-4306 / AVR-3808

Do let us know how it goes ;)

Oh, and don't forget to reserve about $400 for cabling :)

but i will play HD vidz thru pc ONLY !...so wts the use of a/v receiver ?? is it necessary ?

for the screen i chose - Projection Screens - Home Theater Projector Screens by Carada - 136 Inch Diagonal Criterion Series Projection Screen - 2.35 to 1

and how r these for speakers n subb ?

SVS PB12-Plus/2 Subwoofer System Review — Audioholics Home Theater Reviews and News

PMC Ltd

and from the above link do u mean 2xMain, 3xCenter, 2xsurround and 1/2 sub(s) right ?

and hows this ?? if u want me to get the a/v

Denon USA | AVR-5805CI

:D:D

Dude, how do you intend those B&W Speakers to run without an amp?

And I thought your budget was $7k for the entire setup and not the amp alone :S

Also please post your room dimensions and seating arrangement for us to help you better :)
