Home Theater

bump..and wts dts connect used for ? (creative) and can we ampplify the sound thru our sound card --- a/v rc. ---- speakers

Do you actually mean to spend $5-7K based on random suggestions given here? Have you gone out and auditioned any of the speakers you've mentioned?

Audio is not like computers. There are no standard benchmarks. Its highly subjective. Also, seeing that you first considered logitech speakers, you need to brush on your basics. There was a thread here recently with a lot of links regarding basics of audio and home theaters. I strongly suggest you spend a day or two reading. If you have any doubts after that, then we're here to help :D

alright..can anyone of u tell me do i need creative dts connect if m using an a/v receiver ?? and can i amplify the sound thru my sound card---a/v receiver---my ear's

I'm sorry, I not getting your question :(

Here's the normal chain -

1. The Source. Here its a file on your PC. It can be either a stereo music file (mp3,flac,ogg,etc), or a multichannel DVD (DTS, Dolby Digital).

2. Decoder This is need to decode whatever format the file is in (some formats mentioned above).

3. Amplifier This is pretty straight forward.

4. Speakers Self explanatory.

The decoding part can be done either in software, or on your sound card, or externally in your AV reciever. If its done in the PC, then you use the soundcard's analog outputs. If you want the decoding to be done in the AV reciever, then you connect via digital cable.

@ Voila - No offence mate, but I completely agree with what Zhop said.

If your gonna be spending $5k, you better know what your buying ;)

As for Post #28, no you DONT need DTS connect, a good multichannel amp (like the ones I linked to), have an onboard processor, you just need to plug the SPDIF out on your mobo to the Digital-In on the receiver and you get Dolby and DTS playback straight, so you don't even need a multichannel sound card ;)

thanks ^^^^..i hope i wudnt c black bars on projector !! wud I ?

also, thru which cables wud the pc b connected to projector..!?

thanks a lot @zhopudey and @Anish !!

^ Black bars will depend on the resolution of the source file and that of your projector.

You should use a DVI -> DVI/HDMI cable, from your GPU's DVI port to whatever input the projector has for video, and run a Digital Coaxial cable from your motherboards' SPDIF out to the Digital In on the receiver.

Its better to leave video out of the receiver loop.

@ Voila - My Pleasure :D

:hap2: :hap2: u guys r gr8 !! now m left with cabling !! i just knw the hdmi cable :bleh: which others cable r required ?

im going with velodyne 1k rms sub...b/w speakers...denon 3806 av rec. carad 136 screen

just wanna abt d cables...my room is like 15ft height breadth may b 20

and LSi Series : Polk Audio any better than d b/w !! ??

thankssssssssss :)

^ To be frank I haven't heard the B&W or the Polk which you listed, so if you could listen and choose it would be great, else go for the B&W, you can't make mistake with them :P

As for cables, you'll need a Digital Coaxial from the SPDIF out on your PC to Digital-In on the receiver.

Apart from that speaker cables, which those guys will help you with.

Save atleast 10% of your budget for the cables, the B&W's will really sing with good wiring.

The sub is awesome :D
