That is the point... They are not cheap and I'm not sure it's even worth to invest in such expensive devices any more considering we get almost similar experience in fraction of cost. They don't come cheap though.
Not quite correct. Cat5 maxes out at 100 mpbs. These days with gigabit connections you need to go for a minimum of Cat6. I had Cat5 wiring in my house and upgraded my Airtel BB to 200 mpbs yet I was only getting 95mbps. It was only later I realized that the cat5 cable was the limiting factor. Changing to cat6 immediately solved the problem.
Really? I have 1 gigabit version and 2 non gigabit versions in use for the last 3 months. I set them to restart at night.
I have now purchased the gigabit version again.
Hi
I am not sure this is already discussed. In my new flat, the network cable is concealed and I should keep the modem/router at Main hall near tv unit. Now my computer room is little far. I have to use the Wifi Signal for Airtel Xtreme + plus 4 mobiles. Which modem/wifi router/repeater will give seamless wifi. I need to purchase ethernet cable to be given the technician to pull inside home. My friend suggested to go for AMP Cat6 ethernet cable. I searched in Amazon but its not showing AMP make. Any leads.

You need to take into account that it was 2005. I am not sure if CAT 5e was widely available then.Generally, you dont get CAT5 - its CAT5e which is more than enough for Gigabit Ethernet. CAT6 is better, but does not mean you need it.

They do have some quirks, but work fine. We dont need to restart since the office is shut down for the night

The replacement i got seems to be fine. But another issue i noticed in the main node is, 5Ghz is kind of dead by the end of the day. It set to restart at 3am everyday, morning when I check most of the clients are connected to 5Ghz. But around evening by 7pm, all clients are moved to 2.4G band except one which is placed just next to the router with just 2cm gap. Two more clients are also sitting next to the router but with the distance of 20-30cm and these are shifted to 2.4G.
These symptoms are repetitive every day. I will wait for two more days and then shift child node to main, will test further.
Other owners can you please check this behavior?
BTW tenda app gives out details of band info(2.4 or 5) in the client list view itself where as in iball app, we had to check by selecting individual client.
No its not. I got my friend 3 cheap tp link routers at 900 each, flashed them to ddwrt and set them up across his space. They arent mesh but all his place has solid RELIABLE wifi with no bells or whistles, with a 100mbps cat6 backhaul for the traffic to the router. (enough for his 100mbps interenet line & phones/cameras).honestly expected behaviour, from a cheap device..

If you are looking for decent hardware, look at the routers at openwrt.org. They are value for money and you can flash openwrt on them. Don't go with these noname garbage iBall something.Which one ?
Looking for similar cheap 3/4 router network acting as range extenders

Why not? You cant arbitrarily rule out discussion on cheaper & far more stable alternatives. Even with cable backhaul, the iballs are shit.lets talk wireless and mesh, no point discussing wifi extenders with cable backhaul.
What do you need it for? Do you need mesh? Id reccomend staying away from both.I was thinking of getting iBall router as my existing TP-Link W8968 needs to be restarted no. of times a day.
However my ISP suggested not to go with iBall as they many complaints. Instead they suggested to go with Tenda as they provide awesome Value For Money.
Had a Netgear R7000 which died. Went for a Asus RT-AC68U with Merlin firmware and all is more or less good on my end.Not mesh, but looking for a good gigabit router with strong wifi signal.
R7800. One of the best workhorses I owned. Unfortunately got bricked, and Netgear had no replacement, thus exchanged with a r8000.Not mesh, but looking for a good gigabit router with strong wifi signal.
agree - orbi is good, my r7000 is now retired..R7800. One of the best workhorses I owned. Unfortunately got bricked, and Netgear had no replacement, thus exchanged with a r8000.
Not really liking it, so got an Orbi RBK50. Really good range. Using it with Jio gigabit
