Honda Civic or Skoda L&K

Lets break it down like this...

If you are interested in a petrol car...the Civic is the best car in the D-segment...but if u want are willing to give up a few things like..handling or styling the Corolla will be a steal coz right now loads of discounts are being offered by Toyota...
In the petrol wars Octavia doesnt figure coz its simply too cramped and doesnt come with too many goodies(misses out on climate control)

In the diesel corner there are 2 cars the Octavia and the Elantra...i have driven both cars and they are a pretty good match in most aspects...the octavia has a rock solid feel to it and the suspension is the best in class...
The Elantra on the other hand has a very refined engine and much more space all around and is total VFM...plus the Hyundai service network..

And again if you looking for a driver centered car the only choices are the Octavia RS n Civic...i have driven neither but if my exp with the old honda city is anything to go by the Honda is gonna be the best handling car out there! otherwise the performance on paper is pretty even...

Actually no.... the Civic is built as a standard car..... the Skoda has waaay better handling and ride than the Corolla and the Civic. It is miles ahead. The ride of the RS is a bit harsh at low speeds but that is the price you pay for the super performance in corners.

IF you want a drivers car, then look no further than the RS.

For diesel, I suggest the Octavia or the Laura..... not the Elantra.... Somehow, I would not buy a Korean car when I am playing so much. Especially the Elantra.

The Sonata Embera is decent enough though.....

Again, you miss out the Octavia 1.8 Turbo Petrol..... the same engine as in the RS but it does not look racy that is all...... That is also an AMAZING car.

And the difference in the space between the cars (Octy on one side and Corolla/civic on the other) is not much....

I am not considersing Octavia in most places coz of how cramped it is!! the rear bench is just a joke hardly any knee-room...

But from a drivers perspective is the RS vs the Civic...since i havent driven either i dont wanna keep blabering :D

The Elantra isnt expensive and is also pretty cheap to run...

You'll appreciate the diff when u sit on the rear seat most of the times!

Whats wrong with being Korean? :S Are you being racist here?? :@ :@ j/k

Seriously the Elantra is a very good car, definitely one to be considered. Good looks, very comfortable and spacious and the diesel engine is fantastic. The mileage is very good too.

^^ I second that elantra is really a good handles ok sometimes like a boat :P
there is a belief that the Japanese horses are better than the Korean ones :P
Seriously Elantra is real VFM.

I AM being racist here.... I am sorry.... but at least I am truthful.

I honestly would not buy a Korean car which is so expensive.

And the Elantra looks good?? To a blind person maybe!! :P  It looks sick. If I put my biases aside, Elantra is a decent car....but you cant say it lkooks good !!! :O :O

The Elantra is no beauty contest winner...but the CRDI Elantra is serious VFM!!
Korean horses might not be as good as the Japanese or German horses...but they do get the job done...and Hyndai has a huge service network...spares are cheaper...

well the cars that u have mentioned are no doubt amazin cars, but if ur planning for a car right now then u can go in for the honda civic,if ur a driver entho and like the feel of paddle shifts which is new to india then got for the civic auto, nut the car does have its draebacks low road clearence which is bad for a car in india(the honda bosses should have atleast readjusted the car a bit more)
my money would be on the honda civic, but i would wait a bit more longer to get my hands on the new elantra it looks amazin and can surely be a gr8 car to drive arnd...

how about the

Chevrolet SRV

Chevrolet Aveo 1.6 LT Rs. 809,071 (Mumbai)

Chevrolet Optra 1.6 LS Elite Rs. 973,345 (Mumbai)

Chevrolet Optra 1.8 LT Rs. 1,227,396 (Bangalore)

Ford Fiesta 1.6 ZXI Rs. 716,149 (Mumbai)

Ford Mondeo Duratec Rs. 1,717,213 (Hyderabad)

Fiat Petra EL Diesel Rs. 692,554 (Bangalore)

Honda Accord V6 Rs. 1,890,722 (Mumbai)

Hyundai Sonata Embera 2.4 MT Rs. 1,579,051 (Mumbai)

Skoda Laura 1.9 PD Rs. 1,864,327 (Mumbai)

Note: These are On Road prices including taxes etc.... from Indiacar.com

Only an uninformed person would go for the Optra 1.8 when in the same money u can get a Civic or a Corolla..

Maybe the Optra 1.6 is VFM...but the GM network is it any good?

GM network isnt too bad..... And the Optra 1.8 is no match for the Octy, Corolla and Civic.

The Mondeo is actually an amazing car....very very underrated...

If I buy another car, it will be a Mondeo primarily for it's engine... at stock, it's the best car in that segment. Vij, give the Honda VTEC a shot too.

EDIT: bah, missed your budget... well, consider these cars if you're willing to go over 15 :)
