Well rumors now come true.

There were a buzz in F1 world for more than a month now that one of the big manufacturer owned team is going to call it quits because of global meltdown. And it is now official.

Honda is pulling out of F1 and has put the team on sale.

Not good, not good at all.......  :(

^^ when you run out of fuel... use alcohol ;)

to be honest.. Honda never really got the hang of F1 which although is no doubt tough for any team, they in particular being a big manufacturer just didnt seem to get to grips nor returns on performance development investments.

There were absolutely no rumors that this would happen, especially to one of the big manufacturer teams! What was rumored though was that some team might threaten to quit F1 if Max Mosley kept pushing for a standard engine.

Wonder if this is going to have a ripple effect on the already shaky teams, especially teams like Renault whose CEO has always been talking about shutting down the team if it's performance wasn't close to the top and supposedly one of the reasons Alonso left Renault end-2006.

There are other teams (including Renault) whose main sponsor is in dire straits... teams like Williams.

I think that all this will lead to a return to allowing tobacco and alcohol purveying companies - those two are recession proof industries ;).

But this was not entirely unexpected, the recession was bound to claim some victims in F1 - Meesa thinks Renault will be the next to go if they do not perform well in the 1st half of the season.

next in line would be williams, since RBS is not doing that well.

Willaims ?....

I kinda doubt it.. They happen to have many sponsers apart froM RBS na ?

If the single engine supplier rules gets enforced you can expect a couple more teams pulling out of F1.
IMO apart from the tough times, Honda believes that the singlle engine rule might get enforced sometime in the future and they were at looking long term, so I guess that might be the reason.

if that is the case i will stop watching F1 might as well watch A1,

teams can use their own engines if they want. however, there will be standard transmission by XR.

I don't think it is a decision because of only financial problems. Its mainly results , just look at what Honda has achieved in F1 after 2006.

Only one podium for Barrichelo , for Honda in the last 2 yrs. , Honda is very big in terms of budget close enough to big teams (Ferrari , Mclaren , Renault , Toyota) but still can't get results.

After a very promising year in 2006 , where Button got his 1st win , they have gone downhill since then.

Alongwith financial problems , getting no results is also a major reason for this.
