Fellas,

I am a member of GEEKeD! Club, thats the name of our computer club at Mount Carmel School. We are holding a lan gaming event and I seriously require some sensible help here.

The event will have around 100-200 participants and most of them would be free loaders, you know NORMALLY students wants to bunk classes will all come here and waste our time, I need a solution in which I can eliminate them and get only the good ones.

As for now I have planned that we'll be asking silly questions regarding games and all like what is FPS? what are hotkeys? MMORPG and then particularly game specific like what is duck in CS? or Is aoe a strategy or action game?

I think that will eliminate the freeloaders who are just for fun..

Since this is our first gaming event and Winter break is starting really soon, we have to get this done URGENT.

The games we are supposedly having are UT 1999 in first round, NFS 5 in 2nd, 3rd is CS (team match) and Last is Age Of Empires (this will be knock out round between 4 players doing 1v1 against each)

PS: if you know what geeked is? and u r from our school, good for you.

100 - 200 participants! Well done! Who's hooking all the computers up?

Well, one solution you could have is to charge some sort of minimal fee - say even something like Rs. 50. That would get rid of people who are coming for timepass, but then again your school may not like the whole charging money thing. In which case, you could possibly donate the money to some charity. I am sure they won't have a problem with that! :D However, if they don't care in the first place, you can use the money for some future event, or maybe starting a subscription to gaming mags for your library or something like that.

Well charge a fee. But i feel 50 will be too high. Something like 20 bucks will do the trick. That's what we did in our college. But the turnout was much more (around 500 i should say)

thats dumb...someone may be god in fps's and bad at racing or have no interest in strat

keep all games seperate and make it so each guy can register for only 1 game

IMO 100-200 at a school event is gonna be total chaos :P , try limiting it to the number of working pc's you have, say if you've got 30 pc's only let 30 people game at a time. Since it's a school event you could limit the gaming to senior school students only. I'm saying this from experience at modem 2007 at modern school vasant vihar. And as nukeu666 said keep fps , racing and strat games as different events having their own limited(time or frag) rounds.

I like that age of empires is last. That game will make a noob out of everyone of the previous round winners. but, yeah. Nuke is otherwise right. Try having one winner for each genre. No need to bundle them up. Unless of course this a matter of prize money?

good idea, i was impressed with the idea of donating this money to some charity lol, our school will surely be impressed with that.

Anyways we have recieved more than 300 entries for this and I feel like postponing the event till jan cuz on thursday our winter break is starting, theres not much time left.

I think 20 bucks will just do the trick and can get this event some decent competition.

and also we'll be having game wise event as you suggested.

Thanks for the help though, will post pics of the event if it works out the way I see

Rightly said dont bundle up the games definitely all play differen genres .. and bundling up u will lose the intense heat when u play the finals ...... i too had organised a gaming event at my engineering college ....

had two events 1. Need for Speed 2.Counter Strike...

had restricted 120 people for racing and 16 teams for CS each 5 .... was a major hit ..... collected 20 for NFS and 70 per team in CS ....

awarded 1000 for CS winners

700 for NFS Ist 500 for 2nd
