Hotel bookings - Which is best site?

how do u book hotels when u travel? Is the online sites cheaper or the local travel agents gets better rate? pls share ur experiences both in india and abroad

I recently booked via goiBibo.com they had good discounts of 33% (maximum Rs 5000) OFF.
Compared the various online options and also tried contacting hotel directly.

Book directly with the hotel, thereby avoiding middlemen and unnecessary complications. I do that always. Just check with various sites, and look for the cheapest option. Then mail the hotel directly, and tell them that you have these options online (attach links) and that you would like to avoid third parties in between, so please match the prices. It works almost always.

My experience with goibibo is also same... Contacting hotel didn't help either.

Yes they had some offer over the weekend, they have similar coupons today but maximum discount is Rs 3000
