Airtel Router Model: H660GM-A
I want to access my Airtel router settings remotely. So far, this is what I have performed:
- Created a Dynamic DNS hostname with noip.com and set it up under Dynamic DNS in my router settings. It's connected successfully, and the IP updates when I restart my router.
- Created port forwarding for ports 8080 and 8443 but still can’t access the router settings remotely (always gets connection timeout).
Port Forwarding Setup:
- Protocol: TCP
- Start Port: 8080
- End Port: 8080
- Local IP Address: 192.168.1.1 (router's internal IP)
- Start Port Local: 80
- End Port Local: 80
- (I did the same setup with ports 8443 and 443.)
- Under Administration, the remote management is enabled for both ports 80 and 443.
- Tried restarting the router to check if Noip updates the public IP. And yes, it does! The correct public IP is reflected.
(found public IP via google as I couldn't find the same under router settings) - Tried disabling the firewall as well but still no luck.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
- I might be missing something in my configuration, or there could be restrictions in place from Airtel to prevent direct remote access via Dynamic DNS and port forwarding.
- From my understanding, Airtel might restrict remote management of routers for security reasons, or they could be steering customers to use the Airtel Thanks App for remote management features, perhaps as part of their service model.
- Is this restriction common for Airtel routers? Has anyone else faced this issue and found a way to enable direct remote management, or is this a limitation from the ISP (like CGNAT or firewall blocking)?
Additional Info:
- My WAN IPv4 (from PPPoE) starts with 100.x.x.x. From my research, this could indicate that my connection is behind Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT I don't have depth knowledge about this), which would prevent direct external access to my router from the public internet.
- If anyone has experience with Airtel H660GM-A routers or has encountered similar issues, I’d appreciate any insights on how to resolve this.
Thank you in advance for your help and advice!
