You don't even need klite codecs.
Also vlc is very good for unfinished movies that are being downloaded as it will still playback the finished parts so you can check the movie quality or other things you may be looking for such as sound quality or dubbing or hard coded subs without having to get the whole file.. Most other players won't do this... it will also play .bin or .dat files... so you don't have to burn or mount a .bin .dat movie to play it back. -- Even KMPlayer can play that.
Of course it can be used to stream, it is one of the main features it possesses.
I used k-lite for ages, and recently decided to install codecs as needed... I use ffdshow which can play these codecs by itself
DivX, XviD, H.264, FLV1, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, MPEG-4 .
then I install separate codecs as needed. Less hassels.. though I have to admit I do also download gspot which comes with k-lite, as it is a useful utility.-- You can download gspot separately too. I'd suggest MediaInfo as its faster and better
.

VLC is best for ppl who don't know much about the video and just want to play it by any means + offline users !
For Playback just use KMPlayer nothing else required at all , no codec packs no other software just KMPlayer.

Of course vlc will also take advantage of codecs and direct show filters installed by k-lite... yes it can already play many formats on it's own, but as with any media player they need codecs and filters to work. The more you have installed, the more formats they can play back.
As as for you ...with the for people that don't know much about video comment
look up a few of my virtual dub guides. I also have a degree majoring in character animation and minoring in digital media.. so :bleh: to you

As much as I would like to think so I don't...
So how would you get KMPlayer to play back these other formats that it can't.... Codecs and Filters my friend

I don't see how you advocate KLite which installs un-necessary codecs and filters which you don't even need. It messes up your system. So good luck with that. CCCP ftw!
Congratulations for your degrees... WAIT ! You have mistaken my words, The term PEOPLE is used for people in the world & not YOU. I did not read your previous post in this thread nor have i commented on your previous saying ! k-lite is a codec pack.. not a media player AND a media player uses codecs to play back content. That's all she wrote
BTW in a post earlier I mentioned that I don't use codec packs... so no avocation there, but I do use ffshow and any media player I feel like. So there :bleh:
