How do I make Firefox consume less memory ?

How can i make the firefox consume less memory ??
Its many a times makes my system sluggish when it is running.
I cannot use safe mode as i need some of the extensions.

There was a tool for XP which makes the footprint in memory just 1.5mb by directing all the storage to the HDD .. i will try to link it for you

use chrome... firebox consume 140mb when i am browsing TE with 9-10 tabs open but chrome use only 42mb.

I have got so much used to FF that i cannot do without it. So firefox is here to stay for a while

Ya chrome is much faster than FF bcoz it spans threads instead on new processes and consumes very less memory in that case.

Chrome is now doubt faster compared to FF, but I can't let go FF. Can't imagine browsing without GreaseMonkey, Adblock and recently got up new fad of using Stylish (using my own CSS styles)

As for as the OP's concern... just google for FireFox Tweaks, and it should give more than you asked for.

After trying a lot with FF and finally giving up hope because of the memory issue, I am finally settled with K-Meleon. It is based on same mozilla engine, and is damn stable. You can try K-Meleon CCF version, it's beautiful, with adblock and mouse gesture, + the screenspace is more.

If you want the fastest browsing experience in the Web, try Chrome beta. If you want to stick with Firefox, then go for Firefox 3.5, which released just a few days back. Upgrade from the beta which you have installed.

I too am facing this problem of high memory consumption. Dunno what to do.
