I really don't understand how do you guys finish off the games so quickly. I am not a serious gamer, but I do play games.

I read here in gaming section, gaming reviews etc that finishing games in 9-10 hours & even few finish within 6-7 hours [ I remember this about Batman Arkham Asylum, where I took 2.5 full days ]

What wonders me is how a game can me finished so quickly ? I spend lot of time understanding the game itself. Then comes getting stuck somewhere finding the hidden door to move to next level. Unless you are game dev OR have seen game play video, how you can quickly figure out what's gonna be next ?

Or may be all of you have become totally expert after playing so many games ? Or dedication & concentration ?

yeah I too wonder the same. How people completes games so fast..
<

do you guys do not go for side missions? (gta/assassins like side missions?)

Don't die too much and don't get frustrated in boss fights? (Darksiders, I remember, I got trainer to kill one of the bosses)
<

Do not go for hidden things or roam around - looking for cog tags etc? (walkthroughs helps to find 'em, but spoils the fun - ain't it)

No dude i am not one of those guys who completes games very quickly, though i might play video games more than anyone here, my primary is only multiplayer.

Ethan and dinjo bhai complete many many games, just like gannu

You have to understand that the people completing a large number of games "quickly", are very less in number, compared to those who don't. I guess it depends on the amount of time they devote to gaming and their mindset for completing 'A' particular game.

Not everyone likes to play, leave alone complete, all the titles released every month. Most of the AAA shooter titles hardly lasts 6 hours these days. The other genres (barring RPG), could probably last 10-12 hours at the most. The people who complete the game in a short span, may tend to leave out the bonus content and exploration bit aside i.e not aim for 100% completion. They also don't tend to be bothered with any sort of achievements or trophies for most games.

#avi - I can see where your coming from, but you start sensing stuff once you started playing a certain genre, and you get better, it becomes more intuitive. I am no expert, I play games and leave em half way through, but I did manage to complete BF3 and MW3, at a relatively faster pace.

^ I think he took about a month to finish Skyrim.

Anyways, don't bother about how quickly other people finish their games. If you're taking a longer time, it just means you're exploring more in the game and really playing it the way it's supposed to. It doesn't matter how long you take since you are still having fun throughout right? That's what matters in the end. Plus you're getting more paisa vasool if you play longer.
<

Btw when people say 9-10 hours for a game, they mean the actual playtime. They could have played 1 hour each for 9 days or completed it in 2 days with 4.5 hours each day.

I think, Gannu, took like 2 weeks of planned leave for Skyrim.

<

Nope that wasn't me but Allwyn.

There is no point in taking offs for an RPG title because it takes a LOT of time for completion. And by completion I mean, venturing into the side quests as well. Honestly, there is no point in attempting an RPG for the sake of the main quest because the added essence lies in the side quests. It took me an entire month and 2 days to complete Skyrim with an estimated 95% completion rate - no shortcuts used! The same goes for open world titles which have a non-linear gameplay with a whole lot of side quests in addition to the main quest. Classic examples are the GTA series, Just Cause series, Red Dead Redemption, Far Cry 2 etc. OTOH any Uncharted title could be completed in a day because the gameplay is linear without any side quests. I took a day off for completing several titles (Killzone 3, Uncharted 1/2/3, Black Ops, God of War 3 - some of them I recall off the top of my head).

FPS titles do not take much time either. I completed Serious Sam 3: BFE over the last weekend. Must have taken me close to 10 hours but most of the weekends are usually spent sleeping, hanging out with friends, watching a movie or some series etc. I spend close to 3~4 hours daily during weekdays and may be 8 hours on a typical weekend if I do not have anything else to kill time. Last week was mostly spent watching Breaking Bad so gaming took a back seat. Completed the series on Saturday so I was able to complete Serious Sam 3.
<

Anyways, gameplay hours on present day titles have drastically reduced. Anything above 10 hours is a bonus.

do you guys do not go for side missions? (gta/assassins like side missions?)

Yep I do! As long as the quests do not get repetitive and boring. Those animal/dragon extermination quests in Skyrim, for instance.

Don't die too much and don't get frustrated in boss fights? (Darksiders, I remember, I got trainer to kill one of the bosses)
<

Yep I do. If the boss battles are hard, death is natural. It may take a bit to figure out the strategy and once done, it is pretty simple. Never used trainers by far for any title till date. Some titles however are hard by nature - Ninja Gaiden Sigma for instance. I think I took close to 20 tries to complete the last series of boss battles.

Do not go for hidden things or roam around - looking for cog tags etc? (walkthroughs helps to find 'em, but spoils the fun - ain't it)

Never bothered hunting for cog-tags in Gears of War because the rewards weren't exactly worth it IMO. You collect them and you brag about it. That's all right? I went treasure hunting in Uncharted 1/2, recovered everything and completed the titles on the hardest difficulty (Crushing). That was because I had a lot of time and had nothing else to do. Besides, those Platinum trophies on the PS3 trophy cards were worth it.

Using walkthrough for clearing some hard puzzles are perfectly normal. They don't spoil the fun unless you keep referring them constantly.

@OP

These guys swindle the noob, fresh off the assembly line gamers.

They fire the game and utube's walkthrough side by side and keep switching between the two.

On a more serious note, people usually finish the game off w/o the side missions. Add to that the gen proficiency of a game crazy fellow and you ll def see the games being finished off a lot quickly.

As mentioned already, one should play according to his/her own pace and explore it fully. The games which are usually priced for something like 2500 a minimum these days, that is with a purpose.. to provide the gamers a decent time with it. So enjoy em till they last.

And btw.. what do u mean by 2.5 full days ??
<

Also depends on the difficulty you chose to play on
<

Me, Allwyn (Ethan_Hunt), Ankur(quan chi) and Sam are playing 'Payday:The Heist' on hard mode since long time and have played over 25-30 hours. Game has 6 Stages and we are only halfway
<
.

I dont think most of the games except arcade games can be completed quickly. It took me almost 30 hours to finish CNC3 campaign.

By 2.5 days do you mean you took 60 hrs to complete a game? 6 hrs is the total time the game would take if finished at a stretch.

I take quite some time as I play within normal limits a day when I do play (like an hour or so, max 2 hours, but that's team fortress 2)

Play at your own pace, I'm on sort of a gaming hiatus till March 6th.

Some people tend to be good at games, get things right from the get go, I need to retry a few times. Played too many games last year.

I dont like to complete games at a fast pace
<
specially if its a awesome game
<
, then you end thinking what to do now that i finished it.

Within 8-9 hours means actual gameplay time

Yeah, that's what I don't understand !

It doesn't matter how long you take since you are still having fun throughout right? That's what matters in the end. Plus you're getting more paisa vasool if you play longer.

YES

Well, I am on holidays now & I only played games & did nothing
<

I took 2 & half days - minus 2 days sleep = around 35-40 I guess
<

I got killed many times. Most of the time was, I forgot to throw grenade quickly & have blast at own legs lol
<

Also depends on the difficulty you chose to play on
<

I always chose difficulty level beginner

I think you are right. Since I am totally new to FPS, I think I took lot of time, but I enjoyed through out

Hmm... But I read in game reviews that they finish off the game quickly. Aren't they supposed to complete all missions & give a good review ?

Ya, same here

Always hard
<
, but not the level above that (overkill, insane, extreme, etc). Once I played FarCry on the hardest difficulty, and was extremely frustrated by ythe time I completed it.

MP we play on the hardest level available (exception is Payday:The heist, due to levelling up nature of the game)

Where did you read that? Reviewers get a copy of the title much before the NDA is lifted. This ensures that they get sufficient time to do one complete playthrough of the game and publish the review after doing all the editing.
