I am looking to buy any generic divx player reading from USB HDD's. My budget is 1.5k to 2K
Do they read well same as they do from DVDs

Recently saw a review on Moserbaer divx player somewhere, but they didnt mention much on its USB performance.

Better than buying generic, go for the passion dvd player from futurebazaar.com..
Plays smoothl from usb..

^^ thats just a minor thing.

say the speed with which u can ffwd a movie on a disc is max 32x , the usb stick loaded movie wd be doing 16x at best.. but still isnt bad by any stretch of imagination.

i have that passion M player too as does Party Monger.

Does the job easily. Price: Rs 1300/- ; Warranty: 6 Months.

Within abt an year more formats gonna come up and u going to dump ur player anyway. Be it a branded one or be it an okayish brand, so this seemed a good option. Not too hard on ur pocket + ur job is done.

^^ in the sense if the divx file and its corresponding .srt file are in the same folder?

nah ..

u dont need the srt files to be in the same folder.. i mean put everything in the root say z: ... like

z:\Badboys.Avi and

z:\Badboys.srt ,

it ll pick up.

boils up to what u said, but just for clarification ki u dont need to create a spl folder for it.

Ofcource besides that, hard coded subs wd run as normal.

I was kinda sceptical before purchasing a lesser known branded player (i mean come on, who names anything as Passion... khair anyways).. this player has been doing its job pretty decently.

Got the corsair 4GB Pen drive .. 10 years warranty.. so absolute comfort while watching the movies.

How about attaching a usb hdd, does it detects and plays from it also ?
What about the interface is it something browsable or one has to play with remote ?

i dont have a usb hdd, so cudnt test it.

Generally there is some limit upto which the auxillary data unit is detectable.

My way wd be to have 2 partition done on the usb hdd with the primary one abt the same size as the biggest pen drive detected. So u can watch by simply xferring the files from one partition to the other.

Still have to try out that though

Eh ?

cudnt place that question... if u got tons of files on ur usb stick, then u ll have pages showing u the files.

the way to do on this player is either u scroll using the scroll button on the remote

Or

u simply key in the file number using the digit buttons (on the remote ofcource).. that way u dont need to traverse the whole list to say something like file number 20.. u simply key in 020 and u r done.

I forgot to ask. What is the subtitle quality like? Are they large and readable, or tiny? My Philips DVD/Divx player has great picture quality, but the subtitles are very small and totally unreadable from a distance.

have been using phillips as well as passion player for a while now,
for that price tag, passion is definetly good.
BUT. it does get stuck sometimes while playing the movies. and that sucks.
the interface is also not that straight forward as that of phillips. *.divx files are not recognized.

for me, the only negative that hurts is the movies getting stuck thing. plays like a slow-motion. :)
but it sure reduces the pain of writing disks all the time.

so has anyone tried it with a usb hdd yet??? say perhaps.. will my 250 gig one be read?

if it helps.. it's been partitioned into equallish halves...

My Phillips DVP5965K is not able to read properly even 20 GB samsung. All it can read is root folder and first level folders and sometimes at the second level. If anything is kept at third level or more it simply cant see the data. Further it is not able to power my 160 GB Seagate Freeagent GO. As its interface is USB 1.1 you can not play high bandwidth files. And even with standard 700 MB divx files, if there is some fast paced movement in the scene then it playes in slow motion. Overall Im not satisfied with Philips DVP5965K because
*I cant see all my MP3 files on the HDD.
*I cant play fast paced action movies from the HDD properly.

what abt avi files...?

power ur hdd as in??? doesn't it have it's own power connector?

and... anyone tested hdd on the passion player??

hey dude you can buy moserbaer dvd player for 2.5k. It has card reader, usb port and other gud features....i am using it its really awesome..
