Laptops How good is Acer Timeline?

I was recently looking at the new Acer Timeline. I noticed that the laptop is equipped with an Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor, clocked at 1.4 GHz. Isn't this an extremely slow processor? Care to share on your inputs on that?

Though Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor will be quite slower as compared to a Core 2 Duo that you find commonly in laptops now, it is also designed for consuming very less power. That's why you get 7-8 hours of battery life with it. Acer timeline series is not meant for heavy-duty work like graphics designing/video editing (though it might be able to handle this). For normal tasks like office applications, internet, movies there should not be any performance issues. So, if you want a moderately powered laptop that is highly portable and has very good battery life, you can go for this. If you want powerful laptop, you may check one with Core2Duo processor.

+1

The first thing you should ask yourself is how you are going to use the laptop. What are your requirements?

Are you going to travel a lot with it? If yes, the Acer Timeline is a very good choice as it gives 8 hours of battery life else you will be looking for charging sockets at airports or in college, if your course requires you to have one, like MBA.

You will always have to trade-off performance with battery life, as more powerful the components, more juice it will require. And that's exactly the reason the lower power processor in the Timeline series.

If mobility is your concert I would recommend 4810 over 5810...Timeline is about mobility and battery life...Reviews are very good...

IMO, people purchasing netbooks for portabilty/battery life, should look upon timeline series if budget is not a constraint.
