Hi,
I wish to upgrade from my old 2MP Kodak digicam bought 5 years ago with something decent. I've just seen this:
Olympus FE-120 7.1 MP 3X optical zoom @ 5125Rs
Olympus Digital Camera - FE 210 - 7.1 MP & 3X Optical Zoom | Best Buy Olympus Digital Camera - FE 210 - 7.1 MP & 3X Optical Zoom | Olympus Digital Camera - FE 210 - 7.1 MP & 3X Optical Zoom for Sale | Olympus Digital Camera - FE 210 - 7.1 MP & 3X Opt
can anyone throw some light how good is this one?
Is there any other cams (6-7 MP) in the range of 5-6K?
Pls suggest guys?

first of all why do u want something in the line of 6-7mp , get somethin in the range of 4-5mp which has better quality.

also if u have a budget like so , can ya strech it ? also id suggest u buyin somethin grey as ud get abetter product maybe for your money for that much

soulfire is right at ur budget level look for a 5mp cam with more features (instead of megapixels) say 4x optical zoom
however i have no idea about olympus models

i dont like olympus at all, they make ok budget cameras but not good in photo quality, at least the budget ones :P You will rarely(/never) see anyone recommending an olympus here.

+ major -ve point: the video u shoot doesnt have sound cos the budget olympus models dont include a mic....how cheap is that  + olympus has their own memory format which they use (Xd i believe) so ur stuck buying that particular memory cards thus limiting choices.

Go for a canon. If you can make it, the canon 570IS for 9k is the best cam in the market right now below 10k. and even a bit above....

else try lower end canon models or even kodak is better than olympus IMHO...

One strange thing that i've noticed is in Steve's digicam review and Olympus USA site FE-120 is listed as 6MP cam but the sify guys are listing as 7 MP cam even the bodies are marked as 6MP(Olympus site) and 7MP (sify). Must be fakes.

Thank you guys for your suggestion to look for a 5MP cam in my budget. I'll search for it. Btw do you have any suggestion? Which one to go for in my budget range?

Like i said, cheaper canon models :) check sify only..they do have great prices on canon grey market models ;)

Dont go for anything in the Canon A4XX series tho...not worth it IMO. Geta canon powershot A5XX series cam min. :)

Huh ? This is a 5k camera, how can you compare it with cameras costing twice as much ? This is a decent cam without much frills. If you want another choice, go for the Nikon Coolpix L10 or L11, they use regular MMC and SD cards which are faster and better than the Picture XD that Olympus uses. The Coolpix L10 costs around the same as the Olympus (Grey market)

How about Fuji A820? I saw the model at some camera dealer 8.2 MP, 4X zoom @ 6800/- . Looks decent to me.

Whats your opinion?

It is a decent camera. Nothing spectacular. But it has a 1/1.8" Super CCD which is a better CCD sensor and you should get some decent low light performance. But as others have said the Canon 570 IS is the best cam in that range. If you can afford it go for it.

Also see if you can increase your budget to 7500. In that budget you can get the Coolpix S200. It has Optical Image Stabilization and are much more compact than the Canon camera.

Even I want to purchase a Digital camera, It shoul be the best product in its range,i.e., Rs. 10000-/-....

will be recording a lot of videos, so video recording with voice required...

For 10k definitely get the Canon 570IS. Has everything you will need ;)

Correction: The Nikon has electronic image stabilisation and not OPTICAL :) So not really very useful....

"eVR (electronic Vibration Reduction)

The S200 features an electronic blur reduction system that reads image data from an on-board angular velocity sensor and then applies in-camera image processing algorithms to sharpen blurred pictures or video clips. Some shooters may be confused because Nikon uses the same VR designation with their optical image stabilization system equipped cameras and lenses, but eVR is a form of post exposure processing – it doesn’t actually reduce vibration. "

+ a Li-ion propertiary battery so u just cant use AAs :)

These niggles aside...ok camera....but if ur going to 7.5.....either get a lower Canon A5XX series or jump up n get the A570IS. I just ordered a couple from the US for 6800 each :D

Most olympus models have a major noise issue

even in moderately low light, the pictures come out highly speckled and full of artifacts

stick to the Canon a5xx series

Oly photo quality is very good 'out of the box'. I can't say the same for their FE series though. Their Camedia C series was excellent.

Yeah, XD sucks, but again, with memory prices these days, you can get 512mb or 1GB and shoot to your heart's content.

I would recommend Olympus - but not the budget models.

I don't think they're noisy unless you go above ISO 200, and there, most compact cameras suffer due to their smaller sensors, regardless of make (unless they use some form of noise reduction, which in turn leads to a loss in picture quality). I haven't encountered any speckling or artifacts so far. But then again, I was lucky to get a C770 that has lasted me over 3 years now (Its lasted me in spite of a LOT of heavy duty usage). The lens is top notch, and the macros are superb with this particular model.

Yep, and now since this model or the superb 5XXX series or the 8080 are no longer made, I would suggest a budget canon A series.

I hate marketing gimmicks ! I cant believe Nikon would fool customers like that. Good you are going for Fuji, I too use a Fujifilm camera and I love the camera. Fujifilm at least has the common sense to start using MMC and SD cards which are widespread.

Got the cam today. Its good at first sight. Colours seems natural. controls are well positioned. can't say more. only clicked a few photo after i returned from office. the cam uses AA batteries ( NiMH rechargeable will do fine). also it has provision for both XD and SD card. got a Transcend 1GB SD card for it. Now its Durgapuja time in Kolkata. So there'll lots of clicking and the cam will be put to actual test.

Hope i made a good decision.

Congrats on your purchase ! Don't worry about your decision, the Fuji cam uses a Super CCD which has excellent color reproduction. In fact on a trip to Mahabaleshwar, I compared my snaps with my friend who had a Canon A550. I found my pics had better color reproduction and clarity.

In fact the only thing missing in the Fuji cam is optical stabilization. But it has a bigger sensor than the Canon so you will get less noise in your pics.

Thanks.

Yes i've noticed the colour reproduction to be more natural compared to the canon A550. Yes it lacks image stabilisation but does canon A550 have image stabilsation?
