Am mainly looking at one for data dump...and came across this one as WD ain't available here.How do these fare in terms of reliability? Its priced around 8.3k or so.....
 
Why not 1 TB 7200.12 X2....configured in RAID1?
Also mediahome is selling WD 1 TB green TB for 3560rs on ebay after discounts....good for backups and low power consumption
 
Seagate now has only 3 years warranty... RMA is also painfull

WD Green is the best dump drive... Full 5 Years warranty & simple RMA process...

You can get it from dealers here at TE...
 
^^@both: Thanx for the suggestions guys, but when RAIDed, won't a failing disk cause FULL DATA LOSS? also, i am running out of SATA ports, just 2 more left on the mobo.

and WD 2TB ain't available locally.....
 
@Hailstone Are you sure WD has got 5 year warranty? Recently they too seem to have dropped it to 3 years, atleast according to their website.
@RedBull RAID 1 will not cause data loss, RAID 0 does. Remember 2 1tb drives in RAID 1 will mean 1TB of data.
 
AFAIK, seagate has better RMA service, atleast here in chennai. You get your hard disk repalced over the counter, no questions asked. They even do a free data recovery, which obviously takes two days time.
 
yeah here in bangalore seagate service is good... u get ur hdd replaced over the counter within few minutes no question asked... also WD has also decreased its warranty to 3yrs now...
 
^^... When was the last time you got a Seagate RMA. I'm yet to see a Seagate OTC replacement.... & can you back up your claim that WD has also reduced warranty..

I mean some proof to be blunt... Got a new 1TB EARS with Full 5 years warranty...
 
what u mean by over the counter. is it replacing instantly as u submit for RMA

I have never seen anything like that happening at Chennai
I have been to Accel Frontline, Greams road many times for RMA, and never seen or experienced any such thing
They accept the drive, give the RMA receipt and it will be replaced in a week or 10 days.

please be clear and don't provide misinformation
