Storage Solutions How many here run crossflashed drives?

After agonizing for a while ,especially after some coasters writing verb media, decided to crossflash my brand new Sony Optiarc AD 7220S to a Lite ON iHAS 322. Apparently it has not been bricked.:clap: seems to be reading cd's etc fine. will get with the writing tests when i get the time :P

Its been a while . Last time was with my old faithful ( miss it :ashamed: ) 1633 which i flashed to get a Red LED while writing, and again to the faster 1653.

how many of you here run optical drives with non OE firmwares :P

PS: I wont be held liable if you screw up a crossflash, and wouldnt recommend you try to RMA the drive ( that would be unethical)

@ TH - thats way back ! . I was still sticking with my CD writer/DVD drive (both liteons) back then. And yes, c0deking rules :D cant wait for him to release something for my current drives!

those of you who can't. post your drives here. We might be able to find something suitable for you ;)
 
I had crossed flashed my earlier Sony to a Lite on FW. dont remember which one :P.

Right now ,I have Samsung SH-223F .any cross flash for the same (with better performance ) ?
 
i have crossflashed my sony writer to lite-on SHM-165P6S. I did it just for the sake of it. :)

as i asked somepace earlier also, do i get any benefit of crossflashing here?
 
I once got my LED to blink red :P

otherwise , its just better burns, since Liteon firmwares get a lot more love than the sony ones
 
lol. what's there to be so proud about crossflashing. You should only be proud if you hex edited the firmware yourself :P

I had crossflashed my 1633@1653 with the red led and writing strategy patches too but the 1633 is a very crappy writer imo.

Crossflashed my Samsung SH223F @ ST00 (TrueDirect f/w) RPC1-FR-RLR-BS-ROMD-E (RPC1, removed riplock, overspeed, enhanced OPC)

I had flashed my Sony Optiarc NEC something drive to the actual Lite-on model. That was a long time back. Dont remember the model numbers though.

Didnt notice any specific benefits as such. Did it just for the heck of it.

I have a Sony DRU 840A drive, and I am interested in flashing this into something that would be better performance wise. Any suggestions ?

Any help in this regards would be greatly appreciated.
