Yeah, this is pretty much as advanced as it gets for a DIY. I have seen pros at Gaffar work their magic but they are way more advanced - repairing tracks on the flex-cables and what not.
I know. Infact I know a guy at Gaffar who is undoubtedly known as the best repair guy over there and he wouldn't even charge me that much knowing that I can repair it myself. But that ain't the reason I am doing this. I, despite being an IT student, was always fascinated by electronics. So much so that when BTech students usually study JAVA or C++ during their six weeks/six months internships, I went with my friends from ECE and studied Embedded (what little they taught us). This, however insignificant in front of the actual stuff, still gives me the same pleasure.
