Don't tell that you were not able to find a single video for htc one disassembly..... Did a search and they're are plenty of them on you tube.

Yeah. Found a couple. 2 are from etradesupply themselves. One of them is 69 minutes long.
Also thinking of doing a color conversion to Red.

Had checked a few months back and there was just one. Now in the last couple of months i count 6.

Subscribed to repairs universe as they do many phones but they've still not tackled the one yet.

Nopes, nothing of that sort. I repaired an iPhone for my friend and since then I like trying it out on other phones. Replaced my Droid DNA's screen and that of a LG Optimus G. There isn't a video (though I haven't looked properly) but iFixit have a teardown article.
In the article they mention 2 major problems -
1) Impossible to open phone without damaging the plastic bezel on the sides. If the damage isn't that bad, I will just use a bumper case, else will replace the whole back housing for $20.
2) The copper foil shielding on motherboard and on other parts of phone is difficult to reassemble. The iFixit people had to take apart the copper foil on the motherboard because they needed to see what ICs were being used. I have no such need and hence all I need to take care is to just remove the motherboard carefully so the copper foil doesn't come off which isn't that difficult.

The only other problem that I can see is that there isn't another video I can follow but taking apart those 2 other phones has definitely made me a little confident that I can take apart this one on my own. I will just need to be a bit more patient. Since there doesn't seem to be a video out there I think I may do a video this time. I am definitely not a pro at repairing phones but editing will take care of that I hope. It will also give me an opportunity to use the Sony DSC - QX10 I bought.
Go Cell Phone Repair, disassembly & reassembly should help. You're at an intermediate stage but this will be advanced. It looks doable.

P.S. - Even with the cost of the back housing this phone will only cost me 20k, which I think is a bargain for this phone.
Oh yeah, this has to be the cheapest way yet to have a flasgship at half cost :)

Thing is if you add 2-3k you can get somebody else to do for you and still be ahead.

lol, you could get a nice bonus for that :D

Yeah, this is pretty much as advanced as it gets for a DIY. I have seen pros at Gaffar work their magic but they are way more advanced - repairing tracks on the flex-cables and what not.

I know. Infact I know a guy at Gaffar who is undoubtedly known as the best repair guy over there and he wouldn't even charge me that much knowing that I can repair it myself. But that ain't the reason I am doing this. I, despite being an IT student, was always fascinated by electronics. So much so that when BTech students usually study JAVA or C++ during their six weeks/six months internships, I went with my friends from ECE and studied Embedded (what little they taught us). This, however insignificant in front of the actual stuff, still gives me the same pleasure.

The trouble is getting parts from the same place and of the same color and quality. etradesupply has the front frame in Red color but they don't have the back. Aliexpress has the back but they don't have the front. So don't know if this is gonna be possible. I will contact etradesupply and see if they can arrange the back in the same color.
Even after going through all this trouble I won't be hanging on to this phone. I will be selling it and then with that money buy a Red Sprint HTC One because I need a CDMA phone and this one is GSM.

Graduation test for mobile repair is HTC one. This is a really good skill to acquire, mobile is here to stay, everybody wants one, there is never going to be any shortage. A 'mobile doctor' can be illiterate but will do very well. Hardware pays better than software because few get into it. So intimidating. Can't learn it in school. Your competition is drop outs and retired guys. All that youth bulge is struggling for a pittance doing other stuff.

Don't know about fixing tracks on ribbon cables, it makes sense only if its more expensive to get a new one but will never be as reliable as brand new. So every few months its going to need maintenance. Not bad if you can fix it again and again and again...

There is also a blue one so you've got another option. I noticed cyan coloured nokias going for more than black.

Difference between coloured htc and normal htc ? only the colour. We'll never see it on sale here. Talk about generating demand for next to nothing in cost.

Yeah. The Red is a Sprint exclusive while the Blue is a Verizon exclusive. I would have gone for the blue one if it was anything like Cyan from Nokia or the Dark Blue on the HTC 8X, but it is kinda pearly blue which I don't like that much.
