TechEnclave has seen better days and with the change in the consumption pattern and interests of the internet users it has become a little slow as compared to yester years. Not to mention new sites like quora which have come up and soaked up some of the userbase.

Lets put our minds together and come out with possible ideas on how we can evolve ourselves to keep up with the changes and remain relevant not just to the current users but also bring in more.

Maybe we need to transcend the typical forum mindset, maybe its the organisation of content which makes it daunting, perhaps just adding more content or even branching out to related areas. If you have an idea lets thrash it out no matter how whacky. Even if it means spinning off into a related domain of activity.

Lets work together towards a community project to lift the current state of affairs.

PS: you can contact me directly on PM, SMS or call if you are too comfortable discussing your idea out in the open.

I have Few simple suggestions:

1. Move the Forum hosting to India, Loading times are great but you will gain more visitors through SEO.
2. If there are downtimes, it takes hours to bring it online, My assumption is @Renegade or other moderator logistopath are the only persons taking care of forum. (Need 1-2 People who can handle forum when you guys aren't available at that point of time)
3. Bring back the monthly goodies thing, which TE used to run 2 years back. I still remember esantosh, winning twice or thrice.alpha17 etc
4. Stop encouraging people like @Being.smart or people who just troll or do bad mouthing claiming to be old members. Let the rules be a bit strict and no time pass.
5. Need moderators who can have power to control the whole forum, why i say this.. If i report an offensive post, No action is taken until the next 6-8 hour& some times more than 15hours. Very slow moderation.

Bullshit. Total bullshit.

Infact every forum needs members like me or @Being.smart so that we can increase forum activity, and encourage new members to post, in one of these silly threads, someone who may be too daunted to post in a full blown tech thread.

And Vipin has never bad mouthed anybody.

That's just for time pass. Don't know, what part of my advice you got offended. If my posts are stupid use the ignore button, just like you suggested.

Since the Adminsitrator was asking for suggestions, I asked him not to encourage such threads, Since @Renegade wants to keep it professional, Lets be like team-bhp.
I can understand we all have fun poking around with him in his usesless threads, even i agree we need few of them but seriously some are really stupid and not suitable for an Tech forum like TE with reputation.

I have been an lurker for 3 years and an member for ~4 years. Its my personal opinion, if admin likes it, he'll take. Don't want TE to go down.

how bout starting our very own YouTube channel?
- reviews, unboxing, discussing technical PC build questions?
& a solid TE Game clan maybe? for all the games out there? let's upload funny multiplayer videos?

That is *NOT* how you run a forum.

If you venture into multiple media, you are giving other people multiple ways to interact, instead of a single one, which is to visit the forum.

Unify, not diversify.

YouTube channel is an productive idea.
Even the basic video tutorials will gain good subscriber base.

frankly that's the dumbest thing I read today. being professional is not an excuse for being an asshole.

@Renegade, I have this feedback. Just post a disclaimer that this forum is for adults and do away with all the censorship related to "keep it clean". I understand things about harassing and abusing others on the forum but I feel that there is some really excessive censoring on things making it feel like a village panchayat.

On the other hand, lets be more professional. lets start some serious analysis on latest hardware and trends. if possible try getting some sponsors to give hardware to members who will review and pass on to the next one. post videos and photos and extensive stats. let the geeks drool when they see our forum and reviews. at the same time make it fun for the members.
IRC channel.

Exactly. All Time pass and bull pups can be kept in the IRC channel, while actual content comes online enhancing the whatever so called stuff.

- If you want to be popular by increasing userbase, you'll need to start by shedding the "Tech" image. The name "TechEnclave" drives many non-techies away. That's the prime reason you don't see any females here (single digits don't count). We are already doing a lot of non-tech stuff here, à la Being.Smart.

- I've worked with top media houses of India for quite a long time and they all insist on having at least one "Masala Item" on the front page. I've carried stuff like "Man bites snake" along with "Thousands feared dead in 7.1 scale quake in Bhuj". If you want just serious stuff focused towards Tech then bring in strict censorship and give membership to only those who pass certain guidelines (be high headed like TBHP mods).

- From my past professional experience, a successful portal needs to have serious stuff ranked high on the front page. Followed by inspirational stories, sports, movies and masala stuff. I can't figure out what is TE's "serious stuff." Is it the DIY showcase or "which graphics card to buy?" Right now TE lacks a soul. We don't have much on sports and movies, and nothing much can be done about it (to bring in more footfall) as we are not the original content providers. Sales and buying advice are two main areas that attract new memberships. These two sections should be given their own space on the front page, highlighting recent posts. TE's front page can be realigned to look like a portal having different sections - this is to attract new readers*. I am sure most of the members would've bookmarked particular TE sections for daily viewing and they bypass the front page.

- There must be a way to highlight interesting threads on the main page, under different sections. Like superczar's "home automation" under inspirational stuff and being.smart's "how to ask a girl out" under masala/fun section. Lot of non-techies would love to read such stuff.

- I think I am going around in circles. The gist of what I am saying is that either open TE to general mass or focus on just Technology and curb trivial stuff, curtail memberships.

* Show TE frontpage to any Uncle ji or non-techie girl walking on the road and ask them to read a story of their liking. This is the current snapshot of TE frontpage. Which story do you think they'd pick up?:

I had joined TE for the PC Buying Advice/Guides. :)
The monthly buying guide was something awesome till it was there. Those like me, who aren't regularly updated about the latest hardware, the guide was a concise version that I use to recommend to many people who were looking for such.
Can that be brought back?

Also, some monthly articles like "Best hardware - under INR xxxxx".
May be a hardware comparison option with links to Indian/global sites?

Tomshardware of India. How about reddit style upvoting stuff for frontpage? Or is that 2014 already?
