Hi Guys,

I am really p1ssed off atm. I bought the My Book 1TB today (finally) and I am unable to connect it to any power source. The freaking adapter doesn't fit any power socket in my house. I have tried everything from a power switch to extension cords. I am desperate to get it running. Please guide me, how the hell should I connect it?

I think you need to get an adapter plug. Is it the connector where the lower two pins are slant?

Actually, I wonder why this has not been reported earlier. Even why I got a maxtor PS3100 100GB external drive some time ago, I faced this issue. Fortunately, I had some kind of a adapter plug handy.

Well somebody should have told me about it. :( :|

They have provided 2 stupid connectors :

Now what the hell am I supposed to do, I was so excited to get it up and running. :|

You're in the same boat as I was when i got this thing.

Dont you've a spike guard at home? Most of 'em should have the socket that supports that sorta plug which comes with the mybook series adapters.

PS: Me at office. Cant see any images. Hope its the same slightly tilted pins for the plug. :)

I don't have a spike gaurd, as far as the connectors are concerned, one connector has 3 big pins, 2 of those pins r silver and the remaining one is black. The other connector has 2 small pins with holes in them.

Anyways, whats the solution, I am so freaking tired, do I have to travel again all the way to the market? :(

No big deal :P Go get a universal socket adapter for 30-40 bucks from your friendly neighborhood electrical store.

^ yeah ... buy a spike guard, that will take care of your future woes as well if you get such a kind of pin configuration (even my PSP charger has the same config :P)

You could have saved the ten bucks if you did some R&D:

:)

Edit: if those are the only two adapters you got then its a different story...

that 3 pin is the same which used to come with ipods when wall chargers were supplied. how much did u pay for your hdd?

I removed the enclosure of my 500GB MyBook home and ripped the HD out. Its a WD5000AAVS Green Power drive inside.

BTW the storage controller comes with the SATA & pwr connectors soldered on the board so any drive could be used as an external drive like the ones found on the Vantec dock. :P

Duh!! :P Ofcourse those were the only 2 adapter pins supplied with the hdd, why else would I have made this thread? :P

Ok, problem solved. Got a 2 pin converter for 10 bucks. :P It was a PITA though. :P Thanks :)

All's well that ends well. I had a slightly worse situation last weekend. I was installing my new HP AIO and found it had a power plug that had two pins slanting. That wouldn't go into either of my spike guards with all those variations of sockets. Finally I simply cut the wire near the plug and fixed a standard Anchor type plug lying around the house to the wire. Job done.

You get convertors for slanting pins also. Actually, come to think of it, enterprising TE dealers could provide a service by sourcing and couriering these convertors ;).
