How to boot in safe mode in Win XP?

My friend's comp keeps on restarting. The computer would get to the WELCOME screen, start loading the user settings and then would reboot. Once or twice it would get as far as the desktop. He is unable to log on in safe mode. How do u do that. He has got WinXP Pro SP2.
 
To start XP in safe mode:

When the pc is booting just before windows starts loading up press F8 to get the safe mode menu.
