I was away to Dehradun to appear for my exam and in my absence my Samsung 940BW screen was probably rubbed with some greasy kinda cloth ( probably for cleaning ). There are suface streaks on it. Am afraid even to clean it- is it plastic ? is there a solution for cleaning & what kinda cloth to use for cleaning ?- somebody suggested Isopropyl alchohol plus water- plz. guys somebody would have real experience in this !

Dont even touch water to it !!!!!!!!

1) Go to a General store and ask for a buffing cloth (its a yellow coloured cloth u see on signals ...the beggars sellin )

2) Get a bottle of collin spray.

3) Spray some colin on the screen.....and wipe the screen throughly with a tissue paper (soft one) and then buff it with the cloth.

Youll be fine ;)

was told by my friend ...we get lint free material to clean Lcd's can somebody elaborate on this

Check out the link I gave in my earlier post ... I have a vest(ed) interest in that thread - read it and find out what I mean :ohyeah:

My Samsung 940BW screen was really dirty wet wipe were tried did not work-tried colin too-no good -and with advice from friends I have worked out the perfect formula for a clean LCD screen. Important ingredients are.
1. Rubbing Alchohol- Isopropyl alchohol-- available from very few chemists (Rs. 25-00 for 100 ml )-75% strength
2. Distilled water-- get 5ml. distilled water ampule for injections-Rs. 1-00 each
3. Clean Cotton White old Hankie- lint free--1 no-free
mix--15ml Isopropyl Alchohol with 5ml. distilled water
apply very judiciously -do not let it run-on the screen of of your TFT ( switched off )-with circular motion with a small pc of cotton.
Dry off by rubbing gently with your old cotton hankie.
lo & behold -TFT screen like the one U get out of the original company pack !!!!

I did a search for cleaning LCD screens and came across this nice thread...

Cleaning LCD Screens? (by Jeremy Zawodny)

the third post 3 in this thread...

The official word on LCD cleaning in Apple manuals is to use a solution of diluted isopropyl alcohol, no more than a 50% solution. Usually the rubbing alcohol you buy at a drugstore that is either 90% or 98% pure but 98% is pretty hard to get (you don't need it anyway). I mix 1 part water and 1 part 90% isopropyl alcohol, which works out to... um.. something just under a 50% solution.
Be absolutely sure to use a very VERY soft cloth. I use a piece of soft flannel. Do NOT use paper towels or anything more abrasive than an old worn out cotton Tshirt. Absolutely do NOT use windex or anything with ammonia in it, it can etch the screen surface and can cause the plastic to go cloudy. You don't want that to happen!
BTW, there is a commercial cleaning solution called something like Klear-Screen, it's pretty expensive. It is merely a 50% solution of isopropyl alcohol and water. Just like I make, for a fraction of the cost.

I've been using the Isopropyl Alcohol method for a while now and it works like a charm. Its easier to clean if you place the monitor horizontally on a bed or table after removing the stand.
