CPU/Mobo How to enable power from usb when pc shutsdown

I recently bought a wi-fi router to run net on my laptop .the router is powered by a usb cable which is connected to my pc . The problem is that to keep the router on I've to keep the PC on too.... is there any way by which I can configure my usb ports so that they will provide voltage after pc shutsdown though ups is on?

My motherboard is intel DH55TC

@OP, better get a mobile phone charger as suggested by #[member='tech.addict']

Even after my machine is powered down but connected to the socket, my USB can be used for charging.

Mine does as well(NZXT Gamma). As long as PSU input current is on (which means UPS is on, and PSU power button is on as well); it keeps on outputting current as desired. All the power button on cabinet button does is to complete the circuit which starts the POST routine and so on.

So in other words [font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]vivek.krishnan's machine is not powered down but shut down(powered down is when either the PSU switch is off or the UPS is off), and when its JUST shut down, USB port can provide power. [/font]

Or perhaps you have wake on keyboard too ( in which case it needs to feed the power to USB port).

Not really. All USB ports are 5V. The router will draw the correct amount of current from it (as long as the current rating of the adapter can provide the required amount). Even if the current rating of the adapter is less, it will either supply less current to the router, or the router wont turn on. No chance of frying.
 
In case of my laptop, if I put it in standby mode, I can use the USB ports to charge my mobile. I use it as a portable mobile charger sometimes!

Here too. Yesterday has accidently put the laptop is standby, but had connected the phone for charging. Phone was charging, but was wondering why I could not RDP to the laptop

Lots of machines (including two of my four) keep the USB powered from the +5VSB supply instead of the mian +5V supply.

Gigabyte tout this as a marketing fetaures but in fact Asus (among others, I'm guessing) boards had a jumper years ago (think K6/K7, when a lot of readers of this board didn't even know what a computer was) to switch the USB ports from main 5V to +5VSB line when the board was off.

Of course if you have a UPS, you need the UPS to be switched on.

A powered USB hub will achieve exactly the same thing, and as a bonus will power a connected disk etc without issues.
