Guys,
Those who have done DIY for your transparent panels, please help me here

I need to get a 120mm fanholes cut out of acrylic sheet
The switchboard and glass cutting shops i checked said that using a drilling machine and a drill bit will break it and they couldnt do it

Where to get these done

it depends on thicknesss.....I was able to use powerdrill on a(slightly) thick arclyic without an issue.

If you want to get it done by a third pary, Go to Devaraja mudali St near poo kadai in Parrys. There are many roadside vendors doing the switchboard cutting including the circular cut out you asked. There are also two other people doing laser cut out.

Or,

Get your acrylic panel to a signboard maker who deals with plastic signboards, number-plates etc. You might have a shop in the corner of the street or refer to yellow-pages.

They have fret saws (saves you dough to buy one!). Have your design done beforehand on the removable paper on the acrylic sheet including the holes for the fan screws.

I have done the same before and referred to a similar shop in my neighbour. The result was a neat job.

Thanks guys! your posts were very helpful :)

But i think i didnt make myself clear in the first place

I already got the fan vent cut (and shipped to me) but the 4 tiny screw holes are not in a position i want them to be

So I need 4 tiny screwholes made now, thats it

thats it? lol get a manual drill, a 3,4mm drill bit and drill away to glory! Do it slowly else the acrylic will crank or heat and deform.

Gently pour water over the drill bit to avoid the brittle cracks.

LOL you weren't clear about just cutting the fan holes in your first post. :P

Also when you drill, keep the panel on a piece of wood. So when you penetrate the surface, your bit does not 'run' into the floor (or bed, or desk).

You will find that Plexiglas is very easy to drill. But, you will want to go slow. Let the drill work through the acrylic. If you go too quickly, or if the acrylic is not supported on the other side, it may split or crack around the hole on the backside as the bit breaks through. I have found that drilling on top of wood is really helpful. I've also found that I get really clean holes if I switch sides once the point of my drill bit has pierced the other side.
