dont mind me asking this silly question

- how much time does it take for goods which are delivered from US to reach your hands.

- How much amount of tax is to be paid , i mean ?%

- Which are the courier services in US which deliver it straight to ur home.

just like OCing, nothing is certain in this context as well..

some ppl here have ordered stuff way back in October only to receive them in Feb/March!!

Again, tax % is subject to the mood of custom officials.. though the tax varies (i think) for diffent commodities, its the value for which they tax that matters..

UPS, US Postal Service, FedEx are a few means of getting goods delivered

depends on how much you are willing to pay. once i got something through fed ex in 4 days. go for cheaper alternatives that take a week or 2. and yes as masky said sometimes it can even take months if it gets held up anywhere

that i dunno.. depends on the item. i remember having a chart last time with the tax rates for each type of item but i lost it .. :( ranges from 15-20% not very sure exactly

any courier delivers to your doorstep. but if the customs holds on to it theres nothing you can do. maybe go for dhl/fed ex since they may handle all that for you but expect it to cost a bomb

This Courier idea is very risky & slow it seems.

Will have to find someone who is coming from US to India as it will be the
fastest way to get things here.

will have to ask a lot of people and there relatives if they are having someone
who is coming from US to India in a few months.

Now this thread is a real useful one! I too had many doubts regarding this just like Quad Master!
Thread Bookmarked! :yahoo:

Hi all,

I have bought stuff from frozncpu, all my mod stuff in fact, keyboard, mouse mousepad, Modular PSU, thermaltake fan controller, NV silencer. All this was shipped by Fedex international priority, which takes like 4 days to be delivered to your doorstep. Of course the brokerage fee is quite high. But I have ordered through other sites and the fact that I have to go to the local post office and grease the officials and commute every other day to fiind out when they are releasing the stuff makes me end up spending as much if not more money than the brokerage, so I prefer spending that money on speedy delivery and the brokerage and no HASSLE ;-). Hope this helped

OK....... Just stumled upon this thread.....

I would like to tell you that if you are a grp of 4 people, you can bring a maximum limit of 25K x 4 = 1Lakh Rs.

It is the combined value. MAsky had told earlier in the thread that you cannot group the value like this.

In fact you can.......

And for some stuff, the courier cost is waaay to high. I had planned to get a Logitech Z-680 delivered to India. The courier cost itself went to 300$. Add another 250$ for the cost iof the speaker itself...... Total came to 550$.

But I guess for smaller items, it is not that expensive......

Hi,

My situation is sort of different. I have a friend whose coming from CHina this summer. I am asking him to get a 19" LCD for me.
Since he will get it on his own - there are no issues about courier and delivery..

Wanted to clarify about the customs...This limit of 25 K - is it for the billed amount or the amount percieved by the officials in India?

Coz a 19" LCD from there wud cost me lesser than 25K (near about 20 or less) but a custom officer here MIGHT try and calculate the value in indian terms in which case it would be higher..

Any idea on this...Also about the warranty..do you think international warranty wud be valid in india if he purchases it from a reputed brand like Samsung or DEll etc..
Lastly, one thing another guy might be coming with my friend..do you think i shd take this opportunity to get some RAM, CPU or processor?? ANy idea about the wisdom of this...coz the costs are certainly cheaper..just wondering about the warranty issues etc..for an Intel mobo and CPU..
Thanks,

If that is the case, then ask your friend to keep the bill of the monitor with him. In case the customs officee tries to act smart, then show the bill......

Nikhil posted 1.12 minutes later:

And asking him to get a CPU, mobo, RAM etc, will betoo m,uch. The 19" LCD + all this stuff will be more than 25K. This could put your friend in a bit of trouble......

and also ,there are many fakes in China.... you gotta be careful

Thanks for the reply Nikhil.

I will obviously tell him to show the bill to the customs.

I dunno much about the fakes part. Do you think stuff from reputed brands might also be fake there - like a DELL LCD or an Intel Mobo??

I had decided to ask my friend to get a LCD + Intel 915 GAV Mobo..The sum of these items would come to be lesser than 25K INR..

In case if you think that there is a chance to get swindled then i can perhaps omit the mobo..

Thanks,

Guys, So we can get stuff from the US and so on.

But another question bugging my mind is abt the warranty.

I plan to get the X2 3800+ from Canada by next month.

I'd like to know whether international warranty will be applicaple for the proceesor incase there arises some problem when i fix it here on my mobo.

Also can anyone list me the problems that can arise if i get the processor ???

Also what should i do if i need AMD(India) to get the processor fixed/replaced if a problem arises ???? cos 350 $ is a big amt.

What kind of damages can occor in flight/transport ???

Nothing can happen in transport. I told you that already. It is a small piece of metal in a box. And if it is packed in a suitcase properly, then it cannot be damaged in the flight.

Anbd I assume you are asking a relative to get it for you or are you getting it couriered??

Also, isn't there no custom upto 25000
That only applies to baggage that is carried in by a passenger.

As regards the advantage of having someone there buy it for you - underinvoicing as already stated by someone earlier. Your friend can ship the product to you showing a much lower value, thus saving customs duty.

You must remember that the 25000 limit is cummulative for all the stuff your friend is carrying. There was a time when the customs guys would get nasty and calculate even for personal clothing. These days they are quite liberal.
Secondly, the price considered for paying duty is based on the international pre-duty price. The only issue is that they go by their price list to check if your price claim is genuine. This price list is based on manufacturers MRP with a small discount. Your actual buying price may be slightly lower but if the difference is small they will accept your word.

Lol Hi Emil ! Welcome to TE. Those posts you quoted were a little around 5 months old. ;). Feel free to start a new topic though.

Guys I got abt the "getting it here" part !

I want to know abt the warranty part !

I tried contacting an AMD representative of Mumbai/India and found none. The local distibutors of India (as mentioned in the AMD site) say that they have no idea !!! THey told me that they'll refer to this problem the next day. But the next day was 4 days before !
