How to make Indian Postal Service like USPS

I had seen earlier how good the United States Postal Service (USPS) in USA, even 100 times better than DHL/Fedex/UPS in terms of delivery, handling and Insurance.

Suggest some ideas which might turn the fortune of Indian Postal Service, and make it just efficient as that of USPS :D

I don't know about others but the speed post service of Indian post has been great in my case. All the packages were delivered within time limit and the tracking is also very exhaustive.

But then I have never used USPS :p. What difference did you find in your experience with USPS and IP ?

Stereotyping. Indian Post has been great so far wherever I've lived. And there are numerous horror stories about USPS too. Yes, the postman does ask for some "baksheesh" during Holi and Diwali, but one shouldn't mind. It's not as if they're earning a six figure salary a month considering they travel in the excruciating heat on bicycles towing your parcel. Anyway, grass is always greener on the other side.

There front - line workers who sit at the customer desks sure are rude and stingy with change. I cringe each time I need to go to a post office. Things happen at snail's pace.

Regarding delivery (their core competency); they seem to be fine.

Same here at my place,
But regarding the change, I feel It is the duty of the customer to tender exact change in Government offices.

Lemme share my experience with India Postal Service,

The person which come to my house to deliver checks/documents/parcel/packages, is extremely cautious about my security.

He will thoroughly check each and every documents/parcel/pacakge by tearing it from side, middle, back, front, in order to ensure there is no BOMB inside, after than only he will come to deliver me.

If by chance during checking process, he finds the item inside good, he will keep it and skip delivery.

This way i lost 2-3 tees, jeans and printed tees, ordered from UK/USA, (shipped via USPS and UK Postal mail)which was supposed to be delivered by them, but never reached my home. One of my high value check arrived in my house damaged from bottom side, one of my business agreement arrived all soiled up since the protective seal for broken.

Even after filing complain against him, they have only one reply "Items gets damaged in Transit" "If you don't like us don't use us"

For this year baksis i had already kept a damaged 500 rupee note for him :D

I have saw once myself in my local post office, post master was peeping inside a parcel and guessing what is inside parcel with all his staff. But I have never lost anything in transit personally so no problem for me. Just all parcels I receive are already open. I think he already know that he should not mess with me since I have caught him red handed. or it may also be possible that he is just curious to know what is inside the parcels. Also He reads all my magazines himself before delivering them.

Hum dho hamare dho, baki sab ko uda dho!
dho-ne ka itna shauq hai to mere kapde dho do :p

India Post is a service,
courier offices like Blue Dart DTDC are Businesses, there's a difference.

did you read it somewhere that india post customers need to tender exact change because they are being 'serviced', or you made it up?;) i can accept it if GOI mandated it. anyways, as GOI is the only authority to mint indian currency, a govt run business/service/institution would be the last place where a customer is supposed to produce exact change.

if it's just a play on the words then for me, anybody providing a paid service is essentially running a business.

What..?

How am I supposed to know how much is going to be charged...? The price charged is dynamic at run time as per the weight and destination and type of mail service I want. Come on, they can return 1 rupee when the bill is 44 and I give 45. Once this happened to me, he did not have one rupee, but said instead, give me 1 rupee more, and I will return you 2. Or something stupid like that. I let him keep the 1 rupee and walked off. I always see this: people get the speed post sanctioned, then run around outside, fretting for the change. Then come back, break the line, fight, and give the pending change to get the receipt. Stupidity. Utterly. Today the DMRC guy who charges the cards, did not have change for 500, I was getting 200 charged. I could see 100's in his box, but he refused. Idiotic. This is the attitude of any Indian at a position dealing with public. Make them grovel, and make them realize who is "king".

Today I went to SBI and asked a lady where the drafts are submitted. She was like "KYAA" (where) loudly. I almost jumped out of my underwear. And I was speaking so politely (mam, please, could you), and she acted like a hysterical female. I walked off, and took the help of the security guard, who told me where it is situated. Again, some weeks back I had gone to SBI to get my de-activated ATM, activated due to low balance. The lady said to me (must be managerial cadre) "aap log itne bhee paise account main naheen rakh sakthe, branch ka kaam badwaa dethain ho" (can you all not even keep that much money in your accounts, now the branch has to do more work); what type of attitude is this...?

Misdemeanor is 2nd nature for these officials, and we all have come to terms with it. Sickening and brings the bile to my throat.

Errr.. Indian Post IS better than Blue/Shit far or DHL or any courier service in India.

They have very polite and nice office people AND delivery boys. They MAY delay the item by a day or 2, but their tracking service is like light years ahead of ANY service that if you want, you can go and get the item once its in your nearest post office.

imo india post is infinitely better than any courier service in this country. one of the last bastions of good service in this land.
