I always wanted to gut my computer and recently attempted to do the same to see whether I can upgrade my graphics card or install an internal TV tuner card. As mentioned in the title my Dell Inspiron 531s has me completely flummoxed. :ashamed:

After removing the two screws I found that the cabinet door is sort of wedged hard between these two metal hinges. I don't know how to open the case. Any help would be appreciated.

Doesn't the door slide back towards the rear? The first pic shows a handle in centre just near the latch you mentioned.

The latch you mentioned is used for different purposes. Its for securing the computer case with a lock or wire.

There may be some press button type of mechanical switch on the side to unlock the door.

Thank you for the hint 6pack. I managed to pull it out. In the end it was so easy that it was embarassing :ashamed:. After taking off the thumbscrews, I placed the case on the floor and managed to pull the thing back with the metal flap with some amount of effort.

Once the lid slid back the hinge has to be lifted and the metal plate is easily removed

Now I assume that I can fix that there are two free PCI slots here. So one can be used for a internal TV tuner hopefully.

:ohyeah: Hell, the case was stuck real hard and actually fell down with the cabinet in my hand on the first try. The pic was an actual pose on how I opened it.
