KM player with coreavc pro (for H.264 and avc-1) and ffdshow (for vc-1) video decoders work flawlessly. Set these in external video decoders and disable corresponding internal video decoders (uncheck h.264, avc-1 and vc-1 in internal video decoder), you would get better results

Sorry for bumping this thread but can anyone tell me what should be the normal Cpu usage while playing a H.264 encoded HD -Rip files ?

I have KMplayer + coreAVC installed and set it as the decoder for H.264 files .The cpu usage goes upto 20-30%,while playing 720/1080p rips like Planet Earth 1080p files etc.

I am on windows 7 X64(7100).(check detail config in sig).

From what I remember ..the cpu usage would be less than 10% earlier on Vista.

Correct me if wrong but shouldn't the HD 4850 decode the HD files without any load on CPU or is it only for VC-1 files and not H.264 :S ?

EDIT:

at times I also notice lots grains in some scenes ,especially very bright white/blue or the dark black scenes like in Transformers 1080p. Has this got anything to do with the encoding or might be a problem with the source ?

It is noticeable only when sitting close to the the LCD and not much noticeable from a distance of 4-5 feet .

any solution for this ?

^~20-25% CPU usage is normal for decoding 1080p H.264

CoreAVC supports DXVA, and so does KMPlayer (I guess). Download and install CoreAVC v1.9.5, it supports DXVA

DXVA does not work with DirectVobSub(VSfilter) or for that matter any other filter acting b/w the video decoder and video renderer.

If you want subtitles, you must use MPC. Use EVR Custom Presenter as video renderer, enable auto subtitle load, and block DirectVobSub from external filters.

Will be posting a full-fledged guide on x64+x86 filters, splitters, players and more within a day or so

i too just switched to windows 7 and installed km player and in the iniitial setup chose the (3 ghz) 3rd option for performance and quality

the second option makes the normal 700mb rips look crappy and more pixelated but run the hd movies smooth

wid the third option the 700 mb rips look a lot better but the cpu utiization goes to max clock...2.8(312 x 9) which i have currently set on my q6600 ...but the hd movies sometimes hang or lag..wen i try to skip..
what option have u guys set ur km player in the initial setup??

MPC has issues with syncing audio and video properly when fwding.
VLC is the best choice and only has probs if ur pc ain't powerful enuf.
guess its time to buy an i7+ddr3@1600mhz for those bluray and hd-dvd rips huh!!!!

well i had Transformers HD RIP of 26GB in size and .ts as extension
and i wonder but i worked nicely on my system. windows7 x64 and k lite code pack. it works fine even on Media Player 12.
i dont know if its encoded or direct HD RIP btw...
