Video and Computer games have taken the world by storm. Studies in 2006 reveal that kids and other gamers play for at least 5-10 hours a week and sometimes much longer. Sales of games indicate their popularity. Flash graphics, rapid-fire movements, and long hours at the console result in health problems like muscle and eye strain. Common ailments resulting from gaming are: lateral epicondylitis, tendonitis, bursitis, and carpel tunnel syndrome among others.

A small guide on Laptop Gamers describes ten simple steps that will help prevent such damages like eye irritation, headaches, dry eyes, pain, change in prescription numbers, squinting, difficulties in focusing, and frequent blinking.

Nice article, thanks for the link.

Though I dont game much, the strain of using pc's for about 14 years and also watching tv on it is now showing on my eyes. I have been prescribed glasses for reading. The number is quite small though.

Maybe your pc monitor's refresh rate is 60 Hz instead of 75 hz. Most of my friends have a 60hz refresh rate and then complain that their monitor sucks.

When I was using my CRT, my display was set to 1024x768, 32bit colour and 85Hz refresh rate. I am aware of the problems caused by low refresh rates.

Now I am using a LCD and have set the refresh rate to 60Hz.

My LCD is set at 70hz refresh rate. Suitable for long hours, but I would suggest an even higher refresh rate on LCD's for PC gaming addicts.

It also depends on the brightness, contrast and the type of fonts.

i have a 15" CRT  so i have to stick with 60hz at 1024 :( .. but contrast and light falling on ur monitor plays a big role as well...so ive kind of tweaked everything :P for my eyes :)
