How to remove desktop icon background.

Well I dont know how to properly put it but this pic can give you the best info.

Well as you can see the text of the icon is not transparent, it is blue in color.

I tried to do everything from googling to registry but was not able to find the cure.

Please help me, also I dont want that shadows.

Yeah drop shadows under menus from advanced options didnt work for me.

AND ERRR SORRY FOR THAT TYPO IN PIC :|

Sad but nothing happened.

I also noticed that the color of that background of icon text changes when I change the color from right click -> properties -> desktop -> color

Applied a random wallie but didnt make a difference.

A quick question.

I havent formatted since 18 months now.

Is it a high time to do now?

Re-formating is not a solution and neither any maintenance activity.

The tweak that Sidhu mentioned is correct solution even I crossed checked on my XP with enabling and disabling it, it works

a while back I had this problem and it was caused by "Active Desktop" mentioned in post numbers 64 and 72 in this thread.
