How to setup and wire the surround speakers?

[emoji14]

No I remember it very well. Here is the update so far
1. Placed an order for a cheap and functional 3 shelf rack to house the AVR, the power extension and the PS3.
2. Will be ordering these speaker stand online or will buy locally from an authorized dealer - HTX-26 Satellite Speaker Stands | India. Don't want to give up on the flexibility of a stand by drilling holes in the walls.
3. Haven't yet gone out to look for a 30m wire.
4. Will call Onkyo guys and ask for a demo as they seem to have forgot.
Hey did you get those stands

@v.Na5h I brought the same AVR from @Renegade two weeks back.

I placed all speakers exactly at same place where I had Sony HTiB were placed, but Sony had rotating mounts that helped me directing speakers to where the seating is.

As suggested by @Gannu is his first post in this thread, I think losing the treble and mids due to its height, refer the pic as below, the circle represents the seating head position.

I am planning to reduce the front and center height, probably fronts at center of LCD and center below LCD, will that be good ?

OR, get wall mounts and direct all fronts and rear to seating position (atleast need them for rear speakers as can`t place them as they will obstruct while seating.

Also, used the same stock cable with Sony (have few joints as well) as the routing distance is more.. Onkyo stock cable will not be sufficient to replace.

Please suggest speaker arrangement, cables and wall mounts to buy locally (Pune) in budget off course.

Yeah, they look way above the head height. It would make a big difference if you can lower them to your sitting level. The Center speaker can be below the TV. It carries the most load for vocals.

Cables - regular ones are more than sufficient - don't go for "branded" stuff like Mo*st*r etc - they loot. Other aspects pl. see my reply on previous page :) The one point to be added is that preferable no joints. OFC cables are cheap, one can go with a new run, if length is an issue.

Reg. calibration - better if you have a sound level meter or, alternatively nowadays we have apps like Smart Tools that have sound level measurement using the phone's mic. While they are not as accurate, they will induce similar error in all the measurements, so one can use them instead of dedicated sound level meters.

Once you have a reasonable geometry, use the tool to adjust the speaker volumes. If doing it for the first time, you would be surprised that spacing does make a difference in the individual sound levels.

After that, enjoy! Don't worry too much reg speaker quality, cable quality etc., there is no limit & worry contaminates the enjoyment!

Tweeters should be at ear height or slightly lower or else they won't sound great. Bring the fronts down to ear level and place the center under the TV.
As for cable - get either bainridge or Designer audio. The latter is nicer.

Use audyssey and similar stuff only for a rough estimation for tuning. Once the auto calibration completes, calibrate using your ears :). They are way better than the 2$ mic bundled with most receivers.
