How Would You Convince An Average Joe To Shift To Android

So what exactly are the benefits of an Android phone for the average user? For someone who's used to Nokia, SE phones, what difference would an Android phone make?

Is it meant only for power users? [I heard that one needs to mod a phone just to change themes - that true?]. Are the real benefits borne by only those who are [or want to be] on the internet 24/7?

So if you had to convince someone to go in for Android, what would your arguments be?

Imho, going for an android phone is not really worth it for a person who is not to keen on tinkering with the phone. Rather that person buys a stable feature phone, with all the bells and whistles that he wants.

My wife uses an android phone without any tinkering. Stock android is stable enough for normal persons unless you are afraid of changes.

i wouldnt want to try. android is something for people who need to go a lot of mailing/surfing and typical small office document viewing etc.

if you try surfing over andriod, or even the email on andriod you wont be able to go back to conventional phone.

but for a average user, I dont believe it will bring something absolutely new to the table or compelling enough so as to opt for andriod. not that it is really not user friendly or anything else, but simply because from my experience most average users care about is battery life, music and camera.

non of the above will be exceptional in a entry level to mid level andriod. and a entry level andriod will cost as much as a mid end handset from nokia/se.

An average joe can easily use an iphone, why not an android?

You don't have to be a power user in order to use an android. Use the stock firmware and install some fun apps/games and play around.

I wouldn't bother with convincing the average joe... Unless he offers to buy 2 android phones and gift me one if he is convinced....!!! :P

Hehehehehehehe!!!

Android's UI is user friendly and can be used by anyone. Those who want to get more out of it can tinker with it, but those who don't can use it easily too.

thing is he will be able to use it. But thing is from what i understood, the OP wanted to know what more andriod had to offer above the average nokia/se or samsung handset.

that is where I think that andriod has nothing extra to offer.

@OP I think for average user, android mainly provides a more eye-catchy user-friendly UI and good stock browser. But if he/she is used to Nokia/SE phones, then he/she would miss battery life the most. I have seen avg users shifting to android and then cursing it for poor battery life. But they love the UI.

Stock android is excellent IMO. Its the added advantage of tinkering to your heart's content that is most appealing.

To convince an average joe, you'll just have to show them the capabilities of any device, be it iOS or Android.

Just one question, Why would an Average Joe, fork out the money for an Android phone ?

the answers and experience can differ from user to user as there are plenty of android devices floating around.

point remains, if you are buying a cheap phone just because it has android then you are doomed. Buy it for features and not for vfm as the price can range from 8k to 40k.

now for those coming from nokia and SE.

These users are generally fond of better camera and audio experience, convincing them to buy an android without LED Flash and good multimedia experience would be a bad idea. Everybody likes to see a change but not so much that they would have to change their way of thinking.

and yes, android is not vfm without data connectivity; no smartfone is. So consider that before considering android.

I would agree with madnav, as much as I hate apple, I admit that they got the UI right for an average Joe. Start teaching windows to a 40-50 year old person, who never used a computer, he may be the brightest mind in his field, but you see..... I have seen it, dozens of time. Unless his profession requires, he will not learn anything more then browsing or may be creating a few word files. That's why I hate apple fanboys(younger generation) who claims to be much smart, but they are really not there :P (but no issue with people who have deep pocket, and want flashy device for general uses, just don't try to compare and claim it better)
