I visited hypercity mall on sunday...
Saw a black SE m600 in action. Now I'm on the hunt for a good phone, however cameras not necessary as I've already got a digicam

Can anyone comment on music quality? As far as I've seen the player is identical to the w950i which is quite a performer on that front. The OS and hardware is also similar. Any comments?

I've never used stylus based PDAs. Any comments on usability?

btw its priced at around 15,500 there.

Well as far as PDA phones go, usability as a phone is definitely not as easy as a regular phone but it's all about weighing the benefits vs the disadvantages.

There is software you can get to make it real simple to use a PDA phone single handedly. Personally I love it and I can't imagine life without one.

I own a Wizard (K-JAM) and it quite simply is one of the best pieces of hardware i've bought in a long time. It retails for about 32k in India. If you're looking for something a little better, you can go with the Hermes (JasJam) which basically is the successor to the Wizard and addresses all the Wizard's shortcomings.

If you'd still like a PDA Phone Hybrid, go with the O2 Stealth. Comes with a sliding Keypad... perfect for those who want to move from a phone platform to a PDA platform.

Thanks satan, interesting that especially about the software available to make em more err one handed :P
Anyways now I presume such software is also available for the symbian UIQ? Also your thoughts if any on the particular model I've mentioned...

I know about the specs and the working as a PDA I'm interested in its performance as a music player...I don't like carrying around a discrete MP3 player and will probably use any phone I buy in the gym while working out...

The fact that its a full fledged PDA for less than 16K (I presume SE dropped prices cause everyone's running hot after cam phones) ;) makes the deal that much sweeter...

Its this or the N73ME for me. Cannot stand the other SE's non symbian interface...so no W series for me.

Advise!

Uncle has the phone ... I loooveeee it. If you don't need the camera, buy it ... Typing is a breeze ..

Hi Vandal,

Not really sure about the model you've mentioned. I'll look it up. Apparently there is a reasonable amount of software available for UIQ. However if it runs the UIQ v3 which is available for SE P990i, I'm not so sure if you'll be able to easily find any software for it. My friend owns a P990i and it was next to impossible to find anything that worked on his phone. I suggest you look into that before making a purchase. No point buying something that you can't expand upon in terms of functionality.

As far as software availability for Phones / PDAs, nothing comes close to the amount of software available for Windows Devices. There is just soooo much you can squeeze out of these devices. They trully become multi functional, completely customizable devices. Second in line would definitely be Symbian OS's.

There are lots of softwares available for UIQ3 also now, M600i runs on UIQ3, but you should be aware that even though the hardware and OS are same as W950i, the sound quality of W950i is way much better than M600i due to the modified walkman software on the phone...

^But the M600i supports A2DP, so it can be used quite well with a ~5K stereo BT headset.. esp if vandal wants to work out. Good alternative to an iPod nano.

Thanks ^ my thoughts ejactly!
Now exactly what would the difference in audio quality be? Could the walkman software on the w950i be installed here?
I love the screen, thats what I wanted a larger screen...
Yep the camera part is inconsequential...

Also the battery seems a touch low @ 900 mAh. Would anything bigger showhorn into this phone? Ice, kumar...cell phone guru's insights please...I'm close to finalising a purchase...

@ Ice... would you happen to know any good resources for UIQ3 sofware? I seem to be hitting a wall looking for it.

@Vandal.... I used to want phones with MP3 capabilites back in the day, just so I wouldn't have to carry more than 1 device to the gym. Over the years it's become a little more clear to me that unless you are using a wireless headset option, you might end up wrecking the unit and the workout in the process. If your workout at the gym is limited to basic fitness, then I guess a phone with an music player is a good buy, but if you are into more heavy lifting, I would advice against it. U'd be more happy with one of those USB key cum MP3 player pieces.

One of my friends runs a Sony World store and way saying the m600 isnt all that popular and doesnt really sell all that well.

Again, I have no experience with it and I'm sure even he doesn't. I'd suggest you go try it out at the store before you make the purchase.

hmm. True.
About it being common, well the fact is its not aimed at any particular segment of users rather tries to create something of its own. The fact that its not touted as a good MP3 player and lack of a cam also damages its image at least in our Indian market.

I like the price, but yeah it could get damaged. I plan to retain my 6630 and sell my 6610i so will have 2 phones anyways. Could use the 6630 for music I guess...

btw music over bluetooth is possible right? Is the quality good? I mean does BT provide enough bandwidth to enjoy skip free music?
