I love to read books

-GET kindle 4 and be happy. Its simply a brilliant device, one of the few I am truly impressed with.
No tablet, laptop will ever come close to kindle/other ebook readers if your purpose is to read.
If you sit for long hours in font of computer please consider a ebook reader. I used to read a lot from my monitor and now having issues with my eyes. (I don't want to wear glasses)

1) Can you see a pdf page clearly on a 7" tablet? Are you able to read the text? YES :HP VOICE TAB 7 REally nice Neutral screen
2) Are you comfortable holding the tablet in your hand and reading? Somewhat yes
3) Does tablet screen resolution play a role? Should I get a 1280 x 800p laptop or 1024 x 600 will suffice? Get a better resolution always

for comics its great and so convenient as well having all collection at one place. but make sure you get one with high res display to maximize enjoymenr

I own a Nexus 7 2013 32GB LTE version. Previously I owned a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.
I cant ecven think of going back to Tab 2 after seeing the N7 screen

-----> Yes I can see it very clearly. This is due to the resolution 1200 x 1920 pixels, 7.0 inches (~323 ppi pixel density)

----> Yes I am Comfortable. But I don't read for hours together. May be an hour at max.

yes tablet resolution plays a role. The higher the better. The 1280 X 600 on my Tab 2 was a bit blurry.

That said, if your primary purpose is reading then don't buy a tablet, but buy an ebook reader. The tablet is more of an all-rounder. The ebook reader is the specialist.

I have a Nexus 7 2012 running stock Android 4.4.4 update.
And I will not really recommend a nexus 7 for reading pdf documents.

One issue is that owing to the resolution (Widescreen) the tablets lends itself better to things like watching movies and playing games. Please note here that I am not talking about ebooks. Pdf's and Azw's are incredibly useful on a 7 incher like nexus paired with an app like say cool reader. Also word wrapping though attempted by some apps is difficult to achieve in a pdf document.

But while reading pdf or even browsing something old school like 1st gen ipad mini (1024 x 768)/ipad 2 serves better experience then Budget tabs on android.

secondly, as others have pointed out , a 7 inch screen is too small to properly appreciate fine letters even if you have a full HD device. The resolutions makes the fonts smoother but does not change the physical size.

Also and in a rather unfortunate matter , the improvement in processing speed in Android has not neccessarily improved the pdf rendering and screen response issues. If you have a smaller screen , you are more likely to pan around , zoom in , and here is where my Nexus 7 2012 fails miserably. And I feel miserable when someone with an ipad mini with an old school dual core processor and measly 512 mb ram is juggling around journals.

I read pdf files on my 9.7" tablet. This has a 2048x resolution, about 95% of the reading involves technical documents - datasheets, lab notes, etc which have a combination of small graphics and lots of detail.

It works well for medium to long and is super handy for quick reference. I use the tablet for about 90% of the time, only turning on my machine once a day for a few hours for gaming or application use.

Hey how good is the PiPo tab in real world?? i read the specs and its good but does it translate to good real world performance??
Also is it reliable over a period of time?/ any service centers or warranty in India??

Which 10" screen ebook readers can it be used to read pdf & scanned image books? Do ebook readers have wifi and browsing ability?

[OT]It's all right. It is better than I expected it to be, but probably not as good as specs indicate. The few custom ROMs available are better than the stock FW. This is par for the course for all Chinese products.

It needs a reset once in a while, particularly when you try to run a video off a sleeping network drive. Otherwise no problems to report. The seller provides a service facility ion Calcutta, where I live. Never needed it.{/OT]

and how laggy is it when HD games and apps are opened.Does it handle multi tasking well??Also how much did you pay for it ??

That's a tab, when you asked for a large ereader i figured e-ink. Its' a specialised device no doubt. Not as quick as normal tab or as multi-purpose.

Pros are better legibility and battery life in weeks (!)

If the display can be made more responsive then e-ink is the way to go for smart watches.

BUMPing this old thread. How about buying an used iPad 2 for 12K for this purpose? Is the resolution sufficient? Any members using it for reading pdf ebooks?

If your not too concerned about looking at shades of grey then would suggest the Kindle DX. Its far lighter than a tablet (the iPad Air comes close). Text is fantastic and you can look at pdfs without having to move the page (a problem I have with my Kindle Keyboard).

OT how good is a Galaxy tab pro 8.4 16gb wifi at 279$??Its there at bestbuy

Would the 8.9 inch Full HD digiflip pro be better than this??

@m-jeri can maybe put in a word
