Laptops HP DV2600 serious problem !!!

my frnd got lappy HP DV2600 from US year ago...[he is in mumbai now]
now he is facing a serious problem...
lappy got overheated and its Nvidia onboard gfx got burned.
He showed it to HP service center ... those ppl said you have to change the laptop's whole motherboard because gfx chip cannot be just replaced with new...
and they said it will cost 25k.

so guys ne solution for this ???
does any one know where lappy can get repaired on chip lavel ??? and please tell the cost also if possible...
Plz help .. its urgent.. because all his data is there in laptop's HDD..

no warranty left on lappy ... so let me know about repairable things....

did he buy the laptop with the international warranty?

If yes, and if his laptop uses 7600/8400/8600 mobile graphics, he is eligible for enhanced warranty from HP. Tell him to go to the service centre and tell them he is aware of the issue with Nvidia chipset and enhanced extended warranty.

If you do not ask for it, they will not bother to give this information to you.

Go to some private repair shop..they will do it for cheap..most big companies simply change the mobo..

also can you tell me any specific shop where these chip lavel job is done ??

Remove the HDD from the laptop and make a backup of all the data using an external casing or a hard drive dock, if the data is really critical.
