HT setup - help needed

^^ even HT3105 doesn't support upscaling and/or hdmi :( Is there any AVR at 20k that supports this ? The shopkeeper said, it will cost in excess of 80k !!!!

Does the Philips have some kind of digital input? I've not heard of it, let alone auditioned it, so can't give you an opinion.

Upscaling is definitely not possible in receivers in this budget range. If you get something with HDMI, you'd be very lucky but that'll be pass-thru for sure. I'm not a HT nut so not sure, maybe Chaos will chip in.

The receiver is bundled with the package. If you read the thread linked to earlier, you'll see that

1. I was interested in a system only for gaming. The 140.5 sufficed for it, and the Onkyo did not (the 3100, I hadn't heard the 3105).

2. I do recommend the 260.5 as the bare minimum for HT, not the 140.5, as the sound was a little too coloured.

There are plenty receivers under 20K, but most have very castrated features. The Pioneer is outdated by two years, but it cost about 10K so it's OK. I can always mod the innards to get what I want out of it at some point, or relegate it to kitchen or bedroom duty and get a better receiver later. For standalones, the 260.5 is definitely the better package.

In all of these discussions, a location really helps, as any specific recommendations need to be made city-wise. Unless you're shy or have reaosn to hide it, that is.

also, i asked about 260.5 based on ur recommendation, but the shopkeeper didn't have it for display/audition, he said he can only show me the catalogue !

ps: how to edit posts ?

anyone tried this combo?

Future Bazaar: JAMO SPEAKER S 406 HCS

in case the link doesnt work (I see a session key in the link there), search for Jamo and the first result that shows up is this combo

Having said that , I have absolutely no idea how good (or bad) these speakers are but considering that Jamo has decent brand equity which they wouldnt want to ruin, the speakers can't be too bad

I wanted to audition them but they weren't available at the store. I've heard they're about OK.

@vint: I should have seen that, sorry I missed it. I'm used to reading full words and can miss SMS text.

The 260.5 comes with the same subwoofer. You'd not be happy. I guess you should audition more sets till you find one with the qualities you like. At that price, it's going to be tough, and I have very little idea about Bangalore itself, so maybe Chaos will help out a little with the stores to go to.

Edit: You don't get the edit rights till 35 posts. Report your own post to the mods and they'll merge your posts for you, or wait till you get your rights. You're fine for now.

^^ thanks sangram. Yeah, I will need to scout some more, but unfortunately, I don't know many of the brands. With a tight budget and only internet to do my research, and a worse-than-me knowledged salespeople at the stores, it looks like it'll take a long time :( !
