So, here we are with two of the fastest and best smartphones on the planet. The Sony Xperia Z is Sony's first taste of a quad core smartphone, as well as a smartphone that reviews called as the best yet. But the Xperia Z retained it's limelight for a relatively short period as the HTC One came along and absolutely destroyed it with it's muscle Snapdragon 600 chipset as well as a bevy of HTC innovations including the Ultra Pixel camera and HTC Sense 5 UI. Let's see where these devices stand.

Showdown: Xperia Z v/s HTC One
Chipset & RAM
On the chipset front, the Xperia Z packs a Snapdragon APQ8064 with quad core Krait CPUs clocked at 1.5 GHz. The GPU on board is the Adreno 320 and 2 GB of RAM tops it off.
HTC managed to win this round handily with the new Snapdragon 600 chipset, which is hands down the fastest mobile SOC right now. The Adren 320 GPU is around 25-30% faster due to higher clock speeds. RAM is at 2 GB.
Camera & Storage
The Xperia Z packs a 13 MP Exmor R sensor. Sony is known for it's excellent cameras and the Xperia Z is no exception (bar some reviews such as PhoneArena who didn't like the camera).
HTC is pushing in the new front instead of the MegaPixel race. With it's 4 MP Ultra Pixels camera, HTC aims to bring higher quality than raw pixel count. Also, HTC's Zoe makes picture clicking more life like with it's 30 seconds preview. Really innovative.
The HTC One packs non-expandable storage of 32 or 64 GB flavor while the Xperia Z has the option for expandable storage.
Display
The 5" TFT 1080p display on the Xperia Z hasn't impressed as many as the SLCD3 4.7" 1080p display on the HTC One. The One enjoys the beauty of SLCD3 (first seen on the HTC Droid DNA) as well as a higher ppi pixels density too!
Design & UI
The Xperia Z has an excellent design, and is hands down the most beautiful Sony smartphone ever created. There are no capacitive buttons. A button-less approach goes a long way. Dragontrail and Gorilla Glass combine to give your smartphone a great deal of resistance to brutality as well. Sony's TimeScape UI gets an overhaul. Welcome the new SocialLife by Sony, which is a much more lighter skinned yet beautiful Android interface.
The HTC One packs a stunning body made of metal. The silver color variant looks a beauty with it's dual front stereo speakers. The UI is a complete departure from Android. With HTC's BlinkFeed, we are yet to see if this one is a hit or a miss. Honestly, it can be a device breaker.
Battery & OS
Both devices have comparable battery. Battery life is yet to be seen, although you can expect a day's usage from both smartphones.
Both phones come with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and will get upgraded to Android 4.2.x shortly.
