Hello guys,

I am thinking about taking a HTPC config for 50k.
Please suggest me a config.

I need the following in it.

Remote : that can control any software i.e. programmable buttons.

TV Tuner : that can be connected to Thomson STB (TATASky)(Composite out)so that I can record TataSky. Good Video quality needed.

Graphics card : HDTV out or HDMI out only for video.

Sound Card : Audigy 2 ZS or X-Fi Extreme Music.

160gb or 250gb hard disk(Hitachi/Seagate/Western Digitial)

amd 3500+ or 3800+ X2

which mobo to use ?

I have already got a Wireless Keyboard n mouse combo, 1gb RAM, Monitor and Speakers. So, no need of this 4 things.

how about a abit IL-80MV mobo .. but you ll have to get it from overseas i guess

Actually, techtrees suggestion is almost on the spot for the suggested budget. Just make use of the mobos onboard graphics instead of shelling out the 14k for the card. The board is a highly recommended HTPC board because of the silent cooling and alot of people use it w/o buying a separate gfx card.

Since you already have some of the peripherals and dont need to buy RAM(your 1gig is DDR2 I assume?), try to get a fanless heatsink for your CPU if your budget permits. The Thermalright SI-128 has been suggested in extremetech's HTPC build buy im not sure about availablility in India.

Also, dependant on availablity, consider a Lightscribe capable drive if you plan on recording and burning alot of stuff through this machine. Im not sure if they are easily available in India either, both the drives and the media.

I dont think spending more for passive or silent cooling is required. HTPC means you'll hook it up to the TV. Your PC will be near the TV, and you'll be quiet far. So, noise shouldn't be an issue, unless you're planning to fit in couple of 100CFM delta fans :P

You could look at it that way and hence I said that its an option only of the budget permits. The fact is that the AM2 stock cooler is noisy and there is a possibility that the hum from the fan can be heard at a distance. In fact, the article that suggested passive cooling says that the AM2 cooler has a "high pitched whine" at different speeds.

In any case, Zalman is coming out with a new slimmer HTPC case which is looking pretty awesome in initial reviews. Check it out if your looking for an alternative to the Fusion.

Also check out the pics on Zalmans page.

BTW anyone know about the availability of Zalman products in India..specifically Bombay?
