where did u buy it from ? .Do you have bill ?

Can you post 2 modems side by side? ..to believe you .
Ebay. No bill. Seller provides warranty based on IMEI number. I can provide the paisapay receipt if needed. I cannot post the pic of another one coz its with my wife in a different location. As you are from B'lore you can directly do a pickup if you have concerns but interested.

Hey, good luck for ur sale, had a question what antenna are you using with the same and how much did u pay for it also, where did u buy from ? I am also planning to buy an antenna so researching currently on the same.

Just an update. Warranty is for 1 year. Confirmed with the seller. So warranty is valid till 11-10-2011

eBay India: TRAVEL ANTENNA fits Huawei UMG181 Modem Aircard Stick (item 270587592886 end time 27-Jan-2011 21:28:58 IST)

~1300 bucks including everything.

After using the antenna for a month I can say it is very useful. I mount the antenna on the window or outdoor opening with its magnetic base. Extremely useful while working indoors where BSNL 3G signal is weak or switches to EDGE due to no 3G signal. .

Just to give an example these are the numbers

1. Without antenna EDGE signal @ 90%

With antenna 3G signal @ 50%

2. Without antenna 3G Signal @ 10-20%

With antenna 3G signal @ 80-90%

The antenna is small, light weight and hence extremely portable. I mount the antenna while traveling in trains or cars. Only con I can say is that the outer brown paint is not very thick and comes off from the magnetic base. But no effect on functionality in any means.

A bit OT :Will the same antenna work for Huawei E122?
All d best for the sale... I wud have bought it if u had posted last week...

My million $ question:
What if we have the same issues that we are having with the current lot of 1831s? What abt the warranty? As u r not providing any bill with it who will entertain the warranty?

^^ I haven't had any issues with the * UMG181 piece I Have* for the past 2 months. I have downloaded some 40-50GB over a 2 month period. The other one that i bought along with this is working 24x7 fine still. The seller (who seems to be very reputed) from whom I purchased provides the warranty based on the IMEI number.

eBay My World - santoshsgh

I don't think even DVDstoredelhi provides a bill as IMEI number is more fool proof.

Its not me. The seller doesn't provide a bill as he bases his warranty on IMEI no.

I can understand the frusturation you are going through with UMG1831

I am not frustrated. Its the same thing. Dvdstoredelhi is very reputed dealer on ebay as well as TE.
So far even though I got 2 faulty modems back to back his response was very good. Also he provides the bill with the modem with all proper details of his shop mentioned.
I too bought a modem from him which worked wonders for me for last 2 months. but every individual modem is different. Just because ur other modem is working fine do u want us to believe that this modem will never give problems??
Or just to keep it short would you buy something worth 2100 if you are not getting any bill or proof of warranty. These modems are not meant for sale in India. They are manufactured for european and US operators. hence the operator logo is thr on the modems. So how can I believe that I will get the warranty only on IMEI no??

And talking of reputation: dvdstoredelhi has 7737 feedback store with 99.3%positive... thats impressive.
Nothing personal just want to put my point that why warranty proof is necc for me.

when did I imply this? I only said that the piece I have was and is working fine. I can also ask like you that just because the 2 modems you have are not working it doesn't mean all modems will start giving problems.

I can provide only guarantee for warranty and not the proof. For that matter any huawei modems with operator logo doesnt have manufacturer warranty and only seller warranty in India. So even bill doesn't ensure that the seller needs to give warranty. So it's just the trust we have in the seller. Then I don't understand why you are worried about it. Same with the case of purchase from dvdstore for e122 or umg1831 modems.

ok if i buy this modem and in case there is some prb with it.Whom shall I approach. If I ask the ebay seller from whom u bought this to give me warranty what do I do if he denies it? How do I prove that this is the device that he sold?
Or simply what shall I do if he denies warranty within warranty period?
@dvdstore is a regd dealer here and since I have invoice and mails of transaction I can raise the issue here on the forum(which i dont think will ever happen but considering a worst case whr he backs out). This is the reason for my long replies. In the morning also I gave a free bump saying its a nice deal at this price but warranty ka prob hain bhai... samjha karo :)

^^ The simple point is its seller warranty everywhere. Its up-to the seller to honor or not honor it no matter where the seller is from. The best we can do is buy from a reputed seller and have proof of his warranty declaration in the form of a print out or an email from the seller.

So we all are in the same boat.

@bulBlez , the point he was trying to make is ,does the seller maintain a list of all the IMEI numbers of all the modems he SOLD ? .Technically possible ...practically impossible that he notes down all the IMEI numbers. The dealer would not care once he gets money .
