Hyderabad: Does Hathway Internet work during long power outages?

Hi,

I am currently using ACT/Beam ever since they started service in Hyderabad. In general I am happy with their service except for the following.
  1. Less than 30 mins power backup. It is worst during monsoons as the power failures are frequent and hence internet backup will last less than 2 mins. ACT say they cannot help me.
  2. In case there is a internet problem after 6 PM there is no way of reaching the customer service. This effectively means no internet until 10 AM next morning.
  3. ACT not willing to refund for the duration of no service.
I have asked ACT to put the internet switch at my place where I can provide 24 hours backup with my inverter. They are not keen on doing it.

A few days ago Hathway guys came to my place for connection. (Rs. 650 + taxes / pm with 100 GB and 40 mpbs speed). They tell me that their technology is different and it not depend on backup battery. As long as I have power in my laptop I will be able to access the internet. Is this true?[DOUBLEPOST=1462786769][/DOUBLEPOST]I would appreciate if someone can confirm either way as I have the installation slated for tomorrow.

ACT internet in Bangalore works even during power cuts. Tested for as long as 3 hrs. Unfortunately the power was up thereafter :P
 
1. Ask them to replace the battery which should give backup upto 4Hrs. Looks likes they haven't changed it since a while.
2. These days ACT customer support is busy due to rains and unexpected downtimes due to wire cuts. I some times use support@actcorp.in and they respond.
3. If the outage is more than 72hrs you can definitely claim for waiver stating ticket no's and their closure time.

Hathway definitely works during power cuts if you have power at your place.


If you've contacted ACT for battery change already and they haven't done it. Send a Mail to the nodal id. They'll Get it done.
 
Thanks for confirming that Hathway works during power cuts. So, does that mean if there is a power outage for say 6 hours, I could still get internet with Hathway if I have power at my place?

I did reach out to ACT for change of battery. They did change it but it is a 12V battery will 8 connections to the switch. Hence it does not last more than 30 minutes at at time.
 
If the nearest ONU has backup then connection will run even for 12Hours. This goes back to 2008 when Beam ONU installed area was suffering outage for more than 1day and i could notice my connection worked for some 8hrs after that. The same would be the case even for hathway but depends on the battery capacity for ONU

For any ISP, it depends on the connections and throughput. Hathway or ACT or XYZ - if connections are more, battery backup will be lower.

Additionally, if there are enterprise connections, there would be a diesel generator. We have the same in Daman with our ISPs.

It seems they are offering plans different from their site everywhere. Kind of underhanded? What kind of plans they're offering in the 1k bracket?

Also off-topic, but is the Airtel UL internet for 3months legit? Seems Jio will bring prices down.
