Hi,
This is first time here and I just LOVE this site !!!

Anyway about the deal. The way the things and prices written over here I think I've been ripped off. I bought a XFX 4850 XXX Edition 650/1050 512 MB for 14k (Bought it in Chennai) but on the cover the price is 15k(Looks like it been Imported, had the XFX Pine group address on it) . But on the Buyers guide the 4850 comes upto 7k and when I called up another dealer he confirmed it. I can't believe it, this card sucks the bandwidth I get is like 67.2 GB which is less than a 8800GTX . Only 11 k Score in 3DMark06 with a Athlon 7750 3 Ghz and 2gb 800MHZ !! And the PowerColor 4870 costs only 10k .

Time and time again when I buy a new PC I make a terrible mistake in at least one component. IF only IF only I found TechEnclave before !!!!

Its the XXX edition [top of the line from XFX] and generally XFX products are insanely priced so I will call it an even. But yes 14k for a HD4850 is a rip off even it comes with custom cooler and factory overclocked :P

Check if the vendor can change it for GTX 260 or the likes of 4870 :)

OH GOD!! I'm gonna go insane if someone isnt going to buy this THING.

What's the Nvidia equivalent to the 4850 ?

I know that was pretty bad move by me,I was in a hurry in buying the new PC, now I've been nailed. Is there any online Site like newegg in India ?

Lol, 14k is a total rip-off! Get the cash back from the dealer and get a HD4890 for that price! :P

Lol, who's the dealer in question btw?

well that is the case in most shops in the city unless u research i got powercolor 4850 for 8300 and i saw the price here on the forum to be less then that few days after that ...but in my case i couldnt change it cause i had exchanged my 4670 for it ..... but again where did u buy it from ?

I actually bought from a guy from whom I bought the previous PC. I just have his number he buys the stuff and brings it to me. the main reason I buy it from him is that , he gives a little more time to pay him back. like my system upgrade costed me 20k . He said pay 10k one month and another 10k next month. Main reason I HAD to go to him.

The upgrade i did was a

ASUS M3A78-EM

Corsair 2 GB XMS2 800

XFX 4850 XXX 512mb

Seagate 160gb

All this costed me 20 k from him.

Extremely insane...You probably didnt look around for competitive products or the dealer couldnt have charged that much! But XFX products are generally expensive. Moreover ATI products are expensive as compared to the similar Nvidia products. Whie SMC in Delhi quoted 12.5 K for a MSI, he quoted Rs14K for a 4870 (At the time I was planning to make a purchase). I also called Rashi Peripherals and they quoted 16K for a 4870. But since I knew someone coming from US, I managed to get it for Rs7.3K! (An XFX)

But ofcourse it is no big secret that MRP of computer products are much higher than actual prices. MRP's are meant for Malls.

Be careful next time...

for 14k you get HD4890 or GTX275 which are far far far power efficient and faster than HD4850. you better get the card replaced!!

I called him yesterday asking him the price of the card and he blindly said "I don't know" blindly , I said I want him to take the card back and give a 4870 , he told me I can't do that , if anyone else is interested in buying it I will inform you.He did mention about a MSI 4850 hich was 9k but had NO Warranty, so I had to go for it. I know I cant do anything now. Again , i wish I found Tech Enclave before. But I'm sure my next upgrade would be the best cause of TE.

Anyway is there anyway I can sell it ? Cause it only 1 month old, faster I sell it the more value. I live in chennai and i can't find any one to sell it to. And ebay asks for a crappy card no. and my dad isn't going to let me use a card .

Do you have a bill or something?

Shove it up his a$$, file a complain in core or consumer court in your city.

see how things change for you :).

Main reason is he charges you lot extra and and that extra is what you give him in installments.

The way out is purchase something that will cover the extra cost and do not pay. Your say is when he will come back to you for the money.

But be ready with your homework.. and may be for some fight.

And in future.... research before you buy anything

I called him yesterday
should not have done that....

He's been around for years , I have no idea why he did this . I don't feel like going to consumer court. Let's just hope God gives him what he deserves. And, yes research research,research..... .Thanks guys for enlightening me , hope for no more mistakes.

I just found the TE Market . A reasonable price for selling my stuff would be?

How much do you think my XFX 4850 XXX Edition would go for ? Check out this link guys

If you have the bill just fsck him.

Do not pay the extra money period.

If he says anything, threaten to call the cops.

That should fix things for him.

Anything over 7K, will be a bonus now for a 4850. Also give the complete details of the vendor, so future buyers can avoid him like a plague.

@hash: Dude please don't act innocent! Tomorrow one of your friends might get ripped off.

Your card will NOT fetch anything more than 7.5k assuming the card's brand new or it's an XXX/FTW edition or whatever. You're at loss if you don't get the right value for the sum you've paid.

Tell him to kindly take this card back and give back the money after keeping his margin of rs.2k .. i dont think there's any other way as you knew the price (Rs. 10,250 posted in Digit) but still you agreed t pay 14k.

And because MRP is 15k and the bill states 14k, so you cannot get any help from the Cops either.

Take it smoothly and calmly with the seller. Incase he refuses to return the card even after keeping 2k, then ask him incase its possible to exchange it for another card which costs 14k-15k (As dealers usually agree for exchange only if item of equal or higher price is to be purchased)

Hence, Incase of exchange, if you get any of the following options, Go for it:

1. GTX 275 - Rs. 14k (actual price)

2. HD 4890 - 13.5k (actual price)

3. GTX 260 Core 216 - Rs. 11.5k (actual price)

4. HD4870 1GB - Rs. 11k (actual price)

*in that order

(Currently youve been ripped-off by an amount of Approx 5k, hence now you may buy something which reduces the amount being ripped off from you)

PS: There is no point selling your XFX HD4850 XXX for below 9k, in that case You should keep it as its a great card which is worth 9k.

EDIT: Stealing money from the reseller by not paying him later is an option but you gotta be sure that he Cannot harm you by any means (Physically / Legally / Socially)
**But I do not recommend this at all as its still unsafe and against morals**

dude that was a real total rip off for u.....thts really bad...but its ok..it could happen sometimes.....to anyone one way or the other...

if i were u...i would do exactly what other members suggested....buy some more stuff from him and refuse him to pay....unless he's willing to settle the deal in a fair way....

IMO...get a 4890 from him and just pay half of its price...and sell off ur 4850 in the market section....that will break u even...

btw.....enlighten fellow chennai members about the dealer...so that no1 goes anywhere near him in the future...
