Bro i cant be happy with whatever i buy.. what's wrong with me, thing gets boring quick.. i feel the i enjoyed more the process of choosing pc parts and undervolting and all tinkering. My pc runs fine for me, got me excited for 2-3 days and everything goes normal and i dont even use it that much and keep using my phone .. is it like aging? Im 27 now will be 28 this year. I dont enjoy gaming anymore as used to. I can play in nice graphics in fps but it doesn't matter...
I just keep buying things in pursuit of something i dont even know hahaha

brother first of all you need to stop watching tech reviews , they create this FOMO whenever something new comes out . You will never be satisfied , tech moves fast and your current devices will get outpaced by something new tomorrow . But that does not mean your current setup is not good

As I write this from my i5 3rd gen desktop without a graphics card I can assure you my PC is enough for everyday stuff and yours is most likely very good at doing everyday tasks as well

Its always like that, I am not saying anything is right or wrong. I too wanted to build a PC but as I commute more I stuck with a laptop, then installed games optimized it played few days and now I am starting to delete them as they are taking storage. I understood then that anything be it PC, or whatever no one can be happy with a thing everyday its more of like dopamine rush and there's nothing wrong with that maybe after some days you might be tempted to play games again too. There are things people say about how you should control dopamine etc [they might be right but I could never try it] but I just started accepting that, I bought a mobile it had the best antutu score of its range I installed Nintendo games to play with emulators then again after some days I left it. Its just like this with everyone its not new and you might have already understood that maybe explore something new instead like blender/video editing/graphic design or something else you thought about doing and you forgot or didn't get time to do.

This is not just you. This is not just age. You are young. This is a product of the false promises of the material age. We are bombarded with advertisements claiming buying this particular thing or that particular service will fill that inner void. We consume and consume but never feel satisfied. That void remains. The novelty wears off fast. We are left with emptiness. Alienated from self.

Everyone’s different. Their causes of emptiness are different. However, there is a common theme across everyone. We have lost the touch with our species being, the self. We need to regain that. Some common habits which can help us come to terms with ourselves, our family and our surroundings are: 1. Daily Journaling (I do it and I have benefited massively). 2. Meditation and Yoga. 3. Self-introspection by lying idle without doing anything, relieving self from constant indulgence of the emptiness machine that is the social media.

Additionally, consulting therapist may also help.

I am 45 years old now turning 46 next June but still I want to play PC games and I keep on upgrading CPU,MB,GPU only every 3 years but seems to need to upgrade to AM5. So need bigger budget thats why waiting for prices to come down but I dont buy the latest GPU's only previous generation ones so that I will get them at good prices. I am married since 16 years and have a kid but I literally stay at home since there is no court nearby or for that sake in Hyderabad where the nearest court was 25kms away at the other side of where I live. So I stopped going to courts but did work in a coal mine for 5 years and stopped later. Since then I stay at home, drop wifey & kid at their bustops & school and pick them in the evening. I do all household chores but wifey does the cooking stuff.

I am buying PC parts since 2000 and bought 8 new Pc's since then but upgrade in between. My budgets range from 50k to 1.2lacs. I bought a whole new PC in 2019 for 1.2klacs upgrading since then.
I like playing games in Steam & Xbox gamepass though I have games in Epic, GOG, EA & Amazon but never ever used these just hoarding free games only. I like achievements so prefer steam only mostly.
I play at high or at medium settings with 60fps. My wife always pesters me not to spend on games & pc parts.

Totally agree. I had the same experience.
Stop following anything which push you to buy stuff. Tech you tubers, pc subreddits, deal websites etc. It will just create FOMO.

Also, I realized I was spending more time configuring settings than actually playing games. So, I switched to a console—just turn it on and play, no need to tweak 50 settings to optimize FPS.

Also, try to limit mobile screen time. Social media has really messed with our dopamine receptors.

It's a sort of a psychological disorder. I had the same in my college days from around 2005 to 2008 for mobile phones. Some uber rich guy would buy a new mobile phone. Next day I got myself a new and better one. For PCs luckily I was contained with them for about 3 years before considering an upgrade. With age it gradually went away. 37 now btw. Still a bloody child because you see I'm using this forum and replying to you. Lol.

Just change the mentality. Whatever new stuff you buy, just enjoy them as much as you can. This is where I was different at least. Enjoyed every bit of every gadget I bought. Like someone said, you still never be updated with tech. So it's a futile attempt.

Topic title says you can't be happy with things you buy. But then you say things get boring and you lose interest in them. Those are not really the same things. Things becoming boring is normal. And if you prefer mobile phone over your computer then another reason could be that you never really had much liking for computers and prefer mobiles. Because if you like something you use it no matter what. On those days I am outside for 12+ hrs and return home a physical wreck, at the end of the day I still turn my computer on even when I can barely stand or breath, because computer is my oxygen.

Simplicity is beautiful , consoles excel at that and that is the reason they are better if you just wanna game .

off topic but I have found an app called Regain to be most effective for me to reduce mobile screen time

It is not aging alone, it is age bringing maturity and seeking higher level of achievements and satisfaction.
If you are not married, enjoy the time you have. Once you are busy with life, you will fondly remember the times you could peacefully enjoy pc games or even simply enjoy wasting some time.
I lost my interest and agility to tinker with h/w and s/w as of late, I could build small s/w, websites, tinker with h/w, etc.
Now if a pc is being faulty at home, I ask them to take it to a repair shop, which irks them a lot. Now I taunt them why they didn't learn it from me earlier, when I asked them to, haha. I really miss having that mental interest now. Currently, having a curious interest in agriculture which I cannot afford at all.

It's the process that gives us joy, not the the goal. So try to have smaller goals and bigger goals.

Happiness = (achievement+ aspiratioms)/regrets

I know bro.. i just upgraded my normal ryzen 3 2200g setup which i bought while in college maybe in 2018.. to r5 5600 and 3060 12gb, msi b550m-a pro, 2x16gb 3200mhz, 1tb wd sn770.. acer 1440p ips monitor at 180hz.. i am pretty happy with the performance it puts out for the price, and the power efficiency especially after undervolt. I could have extend more and get better hardware but i saw no point. I have already experienced high graphics and ray tracing and all that from friend's pc, those are nice to have and most game high setting and ultra have no difference at all, he have a 3080.. I mainly play valorant cs2 and for that its great, also 12gb lets me run some stable diffusion models...

Now that i already made the setup its not even one week i have ordered a mini pc and new psu and case for my old pc.. idk why hahaha... Maybe a total waste but also i am thinking to buy onn 4k pro from wallmart through anmol's usa shipping, although i have firestick 4k which works fine ..

It seems like i just like the process of finding, comparing specs, efficiency and all the other stuff...

I already have a amazing little gaming laptop with radeon 6600m, which lets play all games i want at this moment. Still i build the pc. Main reason maybe better cooling and also better performance. But it doesn't really matter at the end of the day... Maybe another piece/set of nice tech.

Hahah well that is a huge shift i must say. Im not married but i think i will get married next year... Agriculture is great hobby bro, becoming self sufficient for the daily needs is amazing!

I have great interest in pc and computer. But it as the time passes i dont really have that energy as before. My dad bought my first pc when i was in school, maybe in 2008.. it was windows xp intel core machine with 4gb ram, it ran good until the PSU exploded hahah which is after 4-5years

It is not only social media. I meant lying idle, doing nothing. No surfing. No watching videos. No listening to music. Just lying alone in a room with our own thoughts. We need that daily. That’s an anthropological and a psychological necessity.

Journaling means writing down daily about what happened with us throughout the day, the goals for the next day and expressing our gratitude, frustration and other emotions. It helps anchor our sense of selves and expectations from others. We become appreciative of the wonderful aspects of our lives and mindful of the challenges and our limitations.

We may not have what we want, but we can want what we have. Journaling helps us appreciate what we have and want them.

Pen and paper. 2 reasons:

1. Cut down screen time: Half of the FOMO Anxiety is because of screen-time addiction. Pen and paper help reduce that.

2. Solidness of ideas: pen and paper make our thoughts become permanent. They can be crossed out but never be erased. I have tried writing digitally too, it always felt evanescent.

I am glad to know that you are going to give it a try.

Welcome to adulthood, your priorities, interests and hobbies change over time.
Also, PC hardware has been quite boring imo in the last few years because of the miniscule gains each year and we've also hit a plateau where the performance gains aren't perceptible anymore unless you're running specific tasks for your use case or running benchmarks.
The CPU launches also have been plagued with issues to the point where I'm not considering buying any PC part until something dies.
Products like the new Mac Mini are triggering more changes in the market where adequate computing is available for cheap for most people to the point where you aren't looking for any upgrades because you already have all the power you'll need at your fingertips.

I keep questioning myself if I really even need to buy the new 5070 because my 3060Ti serves me so well @1440p. Not that I expect the 5070 to even remotely perform as claimed. There's been a dearth of creativity in the AAA gaming industry itself, most of the innovation lies in the smaller indie games which don't even require a beefy machine to experience, so there's that as well.

true bro, i can not agree more... hobbies change, i bought bike last year and now i am also thinking to buy car soon... so every now and then i am watching car videos on youtube... but pc gaming has a special space in my heart still... i enjoy it but nowadays i dont enjoy most things at the fullest, not even going for tour which i went at december. I think the problem is with me. But i also think newer games from the year 2019 are mostly sh!t despite good graphics and it feels like the story is bland and newer games are designed to mindlessly suck time out of me... I think a 1660ti is even good for the next 5 years at this pace of game development...

tomorrow i will buy a nice pocket diary and a pen... I will summerize what i did in a whole day at night before going to bed and write it down under 30-40 words.
