Right, and Pigs fly faster than Herons...What OS are you comparing it against when you say it's less stable

huh, I am comparing it against Windows XP. Win XP crashed on me about 6~7 times since 2001. Also been using Vista ever since it released. Ever faced a crash till now.

I have had multiple distributions of Linux installed in Multi-boot till 2003. during that time, I faced several problems. One 80 GB HDD got corrupted beyond recovery after a simple power cut. There were bugs, KDE UI sluggish. Poor/bad hardware compatibility. Whenever I tried to play a audio file, the OS just froze up. From 2003 to 2007, I just used to run live CD/DVD versions of Linux. In 2006, I setup a small Linux rig with a 200GB HDD running Ubantu. The HDD got corrupted after a power cut. Since 2007 I have been running Ubantu, Mandriva and Open SUSE through Virtual Box only.

I have been also using Mac OS at office since 2004. As long as I was on Panther, the OS was fine. Starting with Tiger problems started. The first 4 minor releases were anyway very unstable, but even after that I had been having problems with the un stability of the OS. My typical work setup includes having about 1500 fonts (which can go up to 4000) installed along with XCODE and some other tools. My Mac's have to be rebooted 2~3 times a day on avg for various reasons like hangs, sluggish performance and crashes.

I have a similar work environment for my windows workstation and before I had to restart my machine two weeks back, the last time I booted the machine was about 6 months back.

That's why I consider XP/Vista to be far better than either either of these OS.

and sudo e2fsck -fvy /dev/sdx can't help you?

seems like you got more of pre-conceived notions regarding Linux.

Stability on desktop platforms may be debatable (although, I and a majority of people would still opine that Linux on the desktop may have its more than fair share of flaws, but stability, rather the lack of it is definitely not it)

On a server platform, saying XP (or any variant of Windows) is more stable is plain wishful thinking.. Period

If you intend to disprove it with a long winded post, have it your way, but you'll be projecting yourself an an opposing but equally so variant of Praka by doing so

And Praka, you gotta shut your trap ... Don't you realize you are doing the OSS community a big disfavor with your rants
