CPU/Mobo I got my AMD Phenom II X2 550 unlocked to Quad Core !!

hi all,
i got my upgrade to phenom to x2 550 and biostar ta790gx128m mobo.my batch no for the processor was 0919EPMW which i believe has got about 80% success for unlocking.i was looking for the 0923apmw stepping but couldn't get it as phenom 2 x2 550 was not available with the dealers ready stock.so i had to order for one and was a little dissapointed after seeing the stepping.but i knew that 0919EPMW also had good chance of unlocking, as i saw quite a few threads regarding this in the internet.
anyway by just enabling ACC in bios all my 4 cores started working.:eek:hyeah:
i have tested it for 2 days and the system is absolutely stable.Haven't overclocked it though.
my advice to potential buyers for p2 x2 550 is research a bit about the good motherboards that support unlocking and also know about steppings of processors having good unlocking rates and then take the plunge.if you are lucky enough u will end up with a rocking quad core system that beats the hell out of an intel setup with similiar cost..

my damages were

AMD P2 X2 550 - RS 5400 + tax
biostar TA790GX128M - RS 5000 + tax
500 GB SEAGATE 7200.12 -RS 2600 + tax
2 X 2GB DDR2 800 KINGSTON - RS 2400 + tax

TOTAL 16000 INCLUDING TAX (4%)

did u buy ur stuff from TE dealers?
i went out to buy exactly the same stuff, but had to return back empty handed due to the high prices.

btw..ur prices looks very good
 
every batch unlocks i guess... its the matter of stability...

turn cool n quiet off..

select high performance power mode..

n see how it fairs...

no i bought it from cochin - a good dealer.
i think that soon there will be a shortage of p2 x2 550 be and p2 x3 720be
 
u must have done lot of research on this.
i saw the dealer had 3 boards based on 790gx.
Biostar TA790gxb A2+ Rs4800
Biostar TA790GX128M Rs 5000
Biostar TA790GX A3+ 5800

Now the last 2 boards are having side port memory, but could not get the difference between them.Which would be a better board to get?
 
The second board is Am2+ and has support for DDR2 memory only, with support for AM2+ and Am3 processor.

The third board only support Am3 cpu with DDR3 memory. It will not work with AM2+ and DDR2 memory :) Rest of the specs remains saim ..

The first board has no sideport and has only one PCIE slot compared to 2 PCIE in the second and third.

the last one is ddr3 based.Theoretically it is much more faster BUT overall cost will increase by about 2300 rupees over the other 2 boards if you are planning for 4 gb ddr3 (2 GB ddr3 1333 costs RS 2000 + tax here).
practically i dont think there is any speed advantage at present, coz harddisk will be the bottleneck which is constant.if you go by ddr3 route future upgrades are also easy.
i suggest the second one (Biostar TA790GX128M Rs 5000),coz i think it is the board which helps the maximum in unlocking cores and it is the one recommended here in TE.

anyways thinkover it choose.you cant go wrong with anyone of these choices..

i did prime95 small FFTs test over night and it passed.i think amd is purposefully locking some cpus to meet the demand
 
^ Ur screenshot shows you are running @ 800Mhz only :O

Increase your multiplier(to15 if possible) and HT(2000 mhz) speeds and then do prime.
 
^^That is known as Cool n Quite :p It lowers the CPU speed and Cool Core cuts the extra L3 cache when not needed saving quite a good amount of electricity. It will not hamper performance as it will restore everything when required.

ps:u can get the same from their kottayam branch (ph 0481-3290337,3260338)near nagambadam temple,SH mount PO.they bring their stuff from cochin within one day.they may charge an extra 100 bucks too..:)

Only supported by 790G or higher chipsets
