I have to quit smoking!

Quitting is a great idea. I have come down from 1 packet and more a day to 6 cigs on weekdays and 0 on weekends unless I am out.

Strangely enough , me and my brother were alone these past 4 days and I was in my house the whole time playing tf2 and bioshock all the time. If I wanted I could have smoked but just didn't feel like it.

I believe you need to have a stronger addiction for you to leave this one behind.

On my trip to ladakh we made friends with a foreign couple, the guys father has undergone some laser therapy in Europe to quit smoking. He was a heavy smoker, after the threapy he quit. I found that radically advanced, dont know anything like that in India though. maybe your local doc can give you some more info OR google it. I tend to smoke more while gaming etc. All i could do was i have started smoking smaller cigs like will navy cut small size regardless of taste, i smoke little and throw half of it.... thats all my progress lol. A close frined of mine quit smoking after years of heavy smoking, he feels fresh/energetic and surprisngly he gained hair!!! Never seen that before.

As Rockfella said he is smoking the small ciggys and throwing half of them away ,even i tend to do the same i smoke half the cigg (kings) and throw the rest .I guess i am getting bored of it and these days i am having weird feeling that i may get cancer  coz whenever i wake up from sleep my chest and throat pains badly.

^Somking at 15 is bad dude. Its not even legal.

@Naga, good decision.

Bad, Legal?? Dont tell me you didnt watch an Adult movie when you were under 18...
Dude doing a few bad and illegal things (smoking, porn, booze) at that age is a part of most everyone's growing up phase. Its prolly the reaon most of us do them, the attraction for doing things forbidden. In anycase its not about bad and legal. Its about peer pressure and the need to be a man...;-)

I tried all the 3 for the first time when I was 15 (I am not proud but not ashamed either) and by 1st year engineering I was a regular smoker. But I quite after 13 years of smoking. Its now 4 years and I feel great :)

Cold Turkey is the only method that worked for me, no gradual decreasing shit for me. It usually never works anyway. You really need to understand and feel the need to quit. My reason was, I felt ashamed when my coleague who didnt smoke wasnt huffing and puffing as badly as me reaching 4th floor by stairs and I was 28 then. Quite young in anyones book.

For days afterwards I would wake up having nightmares that I started smoking. Thats how horrified I was of the thought of not being able to quit.

You can only quit it when it comes from within. Not becuase of gf, wife, kids the blue planet...

@spacenoxx Kudos to you dude:cool2: .Good to hear that u had quit smoking even after u were kind of addicted to it .What is that Cold Turkey method??.

Cold turkey is quitting all of a sudden.

I personally tried the gradually reducing method and throwing them half way. None of them were effective and I realised that smoking half a cigarette is just an excuse to continue smoking as there is no real benefit in leaving the other half as you tend to drag longer puffs and more often then when you would smoke a full cigarette.

What makes quitting difficult is the thought that you have to quit for life. Just the thought that you cant take a puff again is the scariest thing in life. "I mean I canNOT smoke again .....oh man I dont think I am ready for that" .....lol
So dont start with that thought, instead think of a period like 3 months, even if it kills you, you know you can go back and that kind of reduces the scariness of it. A teh end of the 3 months you would be smart enough to realise that you can quit and going back would be the stupidest thing to do :)

:O :O.How did u quit all of a sudden.I tired dude but couldn't succeed :(.Once i had quit it for a month but started having bad headaches and used to get irritated very fast.I will give a try once again .Let me see whats my will power will not smoke the entire day .Man u deserve a rep, repped u :D.

Its like this, when having a cold shower/bath/swim on a winter morning, which is better

i) wetting your hands first, then your toes a little bit of face or
ii) stand under full blast/pour a few mugs/just plunge ?

The first one 'feels' easier but is more difficult process, the second one on the other hand pinches like a b1tch but is easier and less painfull method.

Thinking about quitting smoking or any addiction for that matter is really good idea

Being a doctor and catering to one type of tobacco addiction its really usefull for every one here to share my experience till date.

At the end of the day its your Willpower, Faith in your abilities, Love to your near and dear ones and a desire to be fit are the only keys to quit addiction.

If you try to reduce one by one or gradual method its probably never gonna work as sometime or the other you will have to face some temptations / shortcuts / excuses to have more of it and you succumb to it.

Like someone said earlier the Cold Turkey method is the best.

You can select one point of time that you will stop your addiction at this point and then start telling every one around you about your resolution specially to whom you care about and to whom who care for you.

When the moment arrives you will be probably stronger than ever to quit and you will be helped by people.

So start thinking today and decide to quit smoking as any form of tobacco consumed is injurious to health.

One Example(though not of quitting an addiction but to reduce weight)

I was gaining weight rapidly and was touching 84-85 kilos which was causing troupble with my fitness.
In 2008 on my birthday I suddenly announced that I am going on diet from today and will not touch fatty food / sugar / oil / butter till I achieve my desired body weight.

I succeded in adhering to my resolution and reduced my weight by 12 kilos within 3 months. During my diwali vacation trip to Matheran I was able to walk around about 15 kms everyday for 3 consecutive days without any trouble which would not have been possible if I was weiging the same old 84 kilos.

So its the same thing again your willpower.

PS : there are medical aids available for helping you quit smoking / tobacco. They will help you quit but will not prevent readiction. If you need guidance about it feel free to contact me. :D

Happy and successfull Quitting to all.

wat book or gf is going to do...its your decision , your mind .. you stop when you want to ...end of

Try quitting and you'll know...Its like when you change to a keyboard with different layout, or a different operating system, your hand by default wants to use those old shortcuts only and keeps going to those old buttons..
Once the thrill is over, you need something to keep your self busy and motivated..:cool2:

Being an ex-junkie who underwent rehab and then trained to help others clean up, I have no excuse for taking up smoking and social boozing. For quitting drugs, our mantra used to be, abstain for 2day and use 2moro. The problem is there never was any great motivation to stop. Smoking is so pedestrian and pervasive, I don't really know how easy/ tough it's going to be quitting.

For now, it's the NA way. I'll save that ciggy for tomorrow.

a fantastic decision....plz go ahead....even though i m not a smoker....i have read in the newspaper...if smoking temptations occur...then chewing a chewing gum is a gr8 way of getting rid of the habit....since we are masticating and chewing the gum all the time it helps in keeping your mouth busy....and thus helps divert ur attention away from cigarettes.

As a kid i have always wondered what do ppl get out of smoking...its not helping you in anyway...a lot of smoke going in and a lot of smoke going out... :S

its also estimated in research that a chain smoker over a lifetime spends over crores and millions of his/her money on cigarettes instead of putting that money to some good use.. ;)

been there done that :) ... quitting is that easy , once you take your mind of it , chew gum , and not get into other people who smoke ...of course temptation arises ...but thats when you have to be stronger and not give in ... weaker men smoke ...

All the best, or you can just drink tobacco :D.

Btw, even if someone is willing to be a passive smoker, just quit that as well.

It is never rude to tell someone not to smoke infront of you, if they don't listen, just walk away. I've heard that being a passive smoker is worse than being an active smoker. Never read about it anywhere thou :p

very very good decision.

quitting smoking is always welcome, and you have a huge motivation now, quit imidiately and save those two fresh and precious lungs playing around your house.

BTW name of the youngest member? and how the angel doing?

I know ive already quit.

During my 10th std i'd stay awake late for studying and i'd fag once in every 2 hrs.
Later, in the summer vacation i'd be with my gf the whole day and she smokes so even i'd smoke with her.
Later i would smoke at home.

But then about a year and i got sick of it and eversince then i didnt touch em :)

why did you start it in the first place you idiot?

go buy all the cigs in the city u can and bury them, other people who smoke will not suffer along with you then.

 THANK YOU FOR NOT SMOKING:clap: :peace: :peace: :peace: :goodjob: :goodjob: :thanks!: :thanks!:
