[quote name='sangram']Hmm.

First of all, relax. You can't fix everything in the world.

Try pulling the power from another outlet.

Go back to your original earthed spike, we've eliminated it as the source of the problem.

We still have to check with another STB, as well as for reversed line/neutral.

I do know that I had said that this would eliminate the STB, but it does not, as there may an issue with the SMPS bleeding into the chassis ground. Ask your cable guy to get another box (maybe another type of box, they usually have a few).

Hi:

I pulled power from a different socket now with the three-pin of power strip connected to the extension box, and still lines and humming. I am getting picture but every 2 second the picture breaks and a message like 'E4 searching for signal' appears, which is also annoying and the image has lots of small boxes, like picture getting degraded.

Pls help.

Thats due to packet loss. Think of it as watching an online video stream on a poor net connection. A weak signal causes it; its not really connected to your ground loop issue.

I bought that 5 db accentuator from MX today to see if that could solve, i connected it to the input of STB, no improvement at all , its waste of money. I called one electrician, he advised me to purchase high quality RCA cables, may be from MX, will that solve this issue ?

i'm using component cables and still i get buzzin from stb of tatasky .

I'm using component cables as for RCA use..just coz they are high quality.

POWER PASS ATTENUATOR (AVAILABLE IN 5, 10, 15, 20, & 25 DB )

is this one something similar to the one you have posted? :p

An attenuator has a different purpose (to attenuate/decrease the signal level) and AFAIK doesn't use a transformer.

High quality cables won't help unless there is external interference like EMI, and in case of ground loops won't do anything at all.

So, expensive RCA cables ruled out now. Now, should I get the ground isolator from amazon online, its costly.

What are other alternatives, pls help

thats what m gonna do too. Gonna try putting my other room's tata sky here.

if it works, then ask for tata sky replacement.

Hi:

Any ground loop isolators available in India, either online or in shops, anywhere in India ?

Need to purchase one immediately. Please help.

Freely available on Lamington Road. Just pick a multiway outlet with a 2-pin plug. Cost 100 bucks.

What exactly is the problem? Ground loops are usually caused by powering units from different points along one electrical circuit. And usually solved by connecting them to one point instead. Ground lift is only advisable in extremely dire cases, such as equipment from two different floors.

I am looking for isolator that goes between RF cable and STB, small round thing it is.

There are cable supply shops, you might want to ask there.

At the risk of sounding monotonous, repetitive and insouciant, there are plenty of aids to help you make one yourself, epanorama has about four variations from simple to complex for this. You might want to look there if your search proves fruitless. Use Google.

I don't think I can make myself one, and I have searched enough regarding this issue. I went to MX dealer here in Richie street, Chennai. He doesn't even have a clue what am talking about, let alone he can give me an isolator from his stocks !! I asked many cable suppliers here if ever they knew about this problem, I was shocked to know that they are indeed in the dark regarding this issue; so I had to explain them what ground loop is and how it can be solved. I've come to a conclusion that its waste of time asking and searching for workable solution from everybody here and there. I am ordering the 'Russ Andrews ground loop isolator' from UK, my brother will bring it. I will let you all know if it ever solves the problem, after I get the product on Jan 9th.

Now that I think of it, you could've tried the 2 x baluns idea (the one at the bottom in the link). Baluns are available at the MX dealer if i'm not mistaken. Shouldn't be too expensive, since they're just simple transformers, and you have no DIY hassles either.
