I have a Sony HX50v (using it since Aug 14), which is exactly the same as the HX60 apart from the new user interface on the HX60. the performance is brilliant and the superior auto mode is awesome and get's most things right in good bright light. The full auto performance in low light is poor at the best of times, however with the user playing around with F/shutter speed/exposure in manual mode - one can get excellent results. I am a lazy photographer and know jack about photography and manual modes. I wanted something with excellent zoom/optics/battery life while being compact and rugged and this was the best option available. This is an excellent camera. Having read user reviews online, I have found that the HX50V performs marginally better than the HX60v. The HX50v can be picked up from Croma stores if they have old stock for 13-14k with warranty against the 20-21k the HX60v commands which I believe is a brilliant buy with excellent savings. Another option that can be considered is the Panasonic TZ60 which is a very capable travel compact.
Sony HX50v Summary:
1. Excellent build quality, super compact considering 30x optical zoom, good battery life
2. Very good performance in bright/adequate light situations in Superior Auto Mode
3. Even better performance in Manual mode if you can set it up properly (unlike me)
4. Poor Low light performance in Auto Modes
5. Natural colours
6. Excellent macro mode performance
7. Excellent performance with Optical Zoom upto 30x
8. Good image stabilization at maximum zoom
9. Hot shoe provided for adding a range of accessories to the camera
10. Decent video quality
Bottomline :: A very capable travel compact camera with phenomenal zoom and excellent overall performance
