CPU/Mobo i7 3770 nonK stock Idle's at 40C and at load is 95C stock cooler...Antec Formula 7

Ok so i bought a i7 3770 nonK i proceeded to wipe the stock heat-sink clean and use my Antec Formula 7 on the 3770 using the pea size TIM for the job. The problem is that the processor run's very hot with the stock cooler, i have ordered a H80 but it has yet to come dont know when the local shop will have it in stock.

For load i used Intel burn and the temps shot up gradually from 40-42C to 95-96C in a span of an hour of Itel burn. The airflow in the CM 690 II Adv is more than enough. I guess the stock heatsink is well POS what about you all.. What are your stock/loaded temps on stock, both 3770 and 3770K are welcome.
 
Definetly the stock cooler. Also avoid using pea sized tim anymore, those were good in the P4/C2D days but your i7 has more cores which means the heat is spread more evenly along the chip surface, when you get your H80 apply it in a line diagonally.
 
If I reapply the TIM in a line diagonally fashion will it help with the stock cooler because i am not sure where the temps will reach in a gaming environment with 7770 crossfire pumping heat in the system adding to the 3770 heat.

You need a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO to cool that chip [as you are not over-clocking], the stock Intel cooler is a joke. And will probably remain this way.

Then reapply the paste in two stripes that run parallel to the heat-pipes of the cooler and the pressure from the cooler shall be enough to evenly spread the paste all over the contact surface and Integrated heat-spreader on the processor die. RD, you need to read up on the core i7 3rd gen chip and take a look a some photos.

The cpu die on the i7 3rd gen is quite small and its concentrated in the middle. The sides of the heatspreader have nothing under it with which to make contact. So the pea method right in the middle should actually be more helpful than drawing lines all over the place.

Anyway after a lot of testing and trial and error I have found that re applying TIM in various ways is not really going to help your CPU temps a lot. What the importnant questions here are:

1. Is your heatsink making good contact, as in when you remove it check if the TIM has spread well.
2. Is the heatsink properly locked down?
3. What are you using to report temperatures?
4. How many fans and in what direction are they blowing within the cabby

Get back with that and then we will go to the next step. But also report the CPU VID/Vcore at stock.

OP has mentioned that he is on the stock Intel cooler, that is not capable of cooling even the Sandy-Bridge quad-cores so it comes as no surprise that Intel's burn test is killing it now.

Wonder when this piece of stock components is revolutionized by Intel.
 
Abhay, the Intel OEM heatsink fans are pretty decent for stock clocks. It is only when the processor is overclocked that the need of a better heatsink comes into picture. Someone from the forums was able to achieve a 4.2GHz on a i5 2500k using the OEM heatsink fan. It sure is puny but it does the job perfectly.
 
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO seems like a good bet if i had not ordered the Corsair H80 would have given it a try. H80 because i was initially getting the 3770K but did not get any stock anywhere.

My stock heatsink is at place its the same method ussed in LGA775 processors so pretty easy. Yes the processor is locked down properly since the increase to 95C is gradual and builds up over time. My room temp according to a Chinese temp device is 32C inside and 37C outside. There are in total 3 system fans on my CM 690 II Adv one at the back one in-front and one at the left side to cater to the two GPU's.

A lot, depends on the situation. I simply cannot recommend someone to run over-clocks [with a stock Intel cooler] in this dead summer heat of Delhi. Even after having a Noctua NH-U12P my Phenom IIx4 under-volted easily breaks 40° C [on load it is peaking 50° C] I will furnish screenshots upon returning home today.

Even OP has mentioned that he is planning to get a third-party heatsink. Cheerio!!

You do realize all the heat from the graphics card is rising up ^^^^ hits the processor and exits from the top OR the rear exhaust so you

have to cater temperature distortions thanks to that rising column of heat.

I have great experience with using a lot of quality thermal paste. Less thermal paste has never worked for me

But 40c idle is normal for your room temp. And with ibt and your room temp, at least 80c is expected
 
i put thermal paste size of a rice grain and spread it all over the surface using a razor. it forms a thin film... it works for me.. i got a q6600 and a true
p.s. and its fun too to spread that thermal paste evenly all over the surface :D
p.s.s. the guy at smc shocked me when he emptied the whole tube on cpu to install the cm hyper plus
