Which one to buy ? Also suggest a good motherboard.

Im more inclined towards the i7 860 as it delivers similar performance but 1156 motherboards are cheaper.

on the whole the 1156 is cheaper of the two you will go for dual channel instead of tripple channel hence save some money there, both these platforms are going to be changed next year with 1155 and 2k something platform next year. So if you your not going to upgrade for another 3 or 4 years or if this is going for new buy. Go for whichever best suits your pocket the core i920(930 is better almost similar price) slightly edges the 860 in performance.

What is the nature of your usage? Why did you zero in on i7? Did you take the triple channel memory requirement into account?

Today enquired from NP:

i7 930= 16000, x58 pro E= 11k,GB x-58-UD5-18k

i7 860=14900, H55-UD2=6500

These prices are incl taxes, remaining money can be spend on RAM and GFX IMO.

My personal opinion is if you are planning to go for a SLI/XFIRE setup then it make sense to spend on 920/930 otherwise stick to 860. (Remember this is my personal opinion)

Hope it clarifies some doubts.

I would suggest a 920 and a gigabyte UD3R combo unless you need dual lan or tri sli then you would want the UD5. That saves money for better GPU & PSU.

A wise decision. An X58 mostly makes sense if you're going multi-GPU, and with boards like the Maximus 3 Extreme that too, will change. The P55 offers nearly equal performance, and dissipates a lot less heat, not to mention being a lot easier on the pocket. Wait a bit, if rumours are to be believed, an i7 880 is coming soon, and the 870 (2.93 GHz) will sell for 250$ with a new stepping.
