Hi guys,

jst wanted to know wether its worthwhile installing windows xp on an IBM T22 laptop. It has a 16MB (or was it 8MB??) onboard video memory. It's my colleague's n he wanted to me suggest some upgrades etc.(in terms of software). it has windows 98 as OS currently. Due to xp's more graphic intensive user interface, i feel the lappy might start lagging. Also my friend wanted to run autocad on this, which is not possible rt? Thanks for your inputs.

No dude, dont even think of it if it has anything less than 128 MB RAM. I have worked on p2 with 64 MB SDRAM using XP. but still 128 is bare minimum. At 16 mB, you can rather forget it. You can reinstall 98 if you want along with the software updates and diff. softwares which use less memory footprint for common tasks.

How much main memory does it have? 128MB or higher is good enuf for WinXP.

@Sourabh: He's talking about Video memory not main memory.

XP runs fine on even a Celeron 300 with 256 Meg memory and a 8MB Gfx card...Just switch off the Jhingbang visual effects in XP and then it runs as efficiently as Win 2K
